Whisky Reviews for Auchroisk 1991 Cl

  1. The Macallan scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

Luckily I bought a sample and not a bottle from a renowned shop in The Netherlands.
This one is not very interesting in my opinion, it was just a standard dram with nothing going on in there. With some water it doesn't get any better so its best to drink it neat. However it's each to its own!
    • Nose
Matured, fruit (tropical), estery (solvent), floral, gentle but not exciting as such
    • Taste
Warm with spiced fruit, woody but all balanced
    • Finish
Spicy, drying with some fruit in the back

    • Nose

  7. Bishlouk scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A good whisky, nice and fresh. Classic, but effective.
    • Nose
Fresh, dry, and vegetable. Fern, vanilla, green apple, and a few drops of fresh lemon. The dry side vanishes with aeration, leaving the vegetal and fruity freshness to express itself.
    • Taste
Yellow apple, slices of acid lemon, white grape syrup. A few spicy pinches are quarreling in the background. Green rhubarb compote at times.
    • Finish
Average. The spicy plant (peppermint, or nettles?) Is needed, accompanied by dry apple peel.

    Serge (whiskyfun.com):

    Auchroisk 25 yo 1991/2016 (54.7%, Claxton’s, bourbon hogshead)
We’ve already tried some excellent whiskies by this fairly new bottler.
Colour: straw. Nose: it hasn’t quite got the fruits that were in the
1988, but it’s got some good grass and hints of luxury hand cream. It’s
quite floral, in fact, and indeed lilac is back (S., you know that
alliterations kill!). Orange drops. With water: same. Mouth (neat):
good! Tinned fruits coated with pepper, ginger, and cinnamon. In truth
I’m finding this Tomatiny side again. Also tinned peaches ala Ardmore,
and some caraway ala… Ach, caraway eau-de-vie. With water: same. Finish:
medium, creamy, on more tinned peaches. Add one marshmallow. Comments:
this baby’s immune to water, but that doesn’t matter, it’s pretty
    excellent when neat. SGP:551 - 86 points.

  9. St. Pauli scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Just lovely, this fruity dram from an undervalued distillery. It has an excellent price quality ratio. Recommended, especially if you add water.
    • Nose
Opulent, fruity and herbal. Tinned pear and pineapple dominate, then granny smith apple. It has a hint of this old school waxiness, with sweet barley. Then, there is grass, mint and a hint of chive. The wood brings ample vanilla cream and soft spice. With water, it gets fruitier and sweeter, with strawberry jam, icing sugar and extra vanilla.
    • Taste
Still good, albeit somewhat sourer than I had expected. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just noticing. It's more on apples now, on unripe pineapple and lemon juice. The wood influence is clearly detectable. It's a bit too far in my opinion, delivering some tannins and cloying pepper alongside vanilla and honey. Water improves, it softens the sour note a little and thus makes it more balanced.
    • Finish
Despite the woody mid palate, the finish is within bounds. OK, it's a tad bitter, but that shouldn't be a problem. It's like a tropical fruit salad with yogurt, vanilla, mint and a bag of spices.
