  1. wisekycourse scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    important floral side, fruit on the peach, a little distant orange, a little iodine, bread crumbs too.

  2. Mascht scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
      Vanilla, tropical fruits, mineral
    • Taste
      Citrus, salt
    • Finish

  3. nhuber scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

    Sweet, nice, not bad, but definitely underwhelming considering the plate: old Pulteney which has good spirit, 25 years, cask strength.... Not Bad but just nothing really exciting... Unfortunately

    Well, a pleasing nose - very much.
    On the palate somehow unausgereren or simply unusually sour (rancid?).
    After 25 years in the ex-bourbon barrel, the result has somehow fallen short of expectations;
    Okay, but not very good.
    A 2nd and 3rd tasting after a certain past time (oxygen) is probably necessary for the final judgment; 4th and final decision: with one, two drops of water, a clear maritime note comes out, orange is also apparent. The verdict: on the whole okay - I am a little reconciled ... Good but not really more.
    PLV: 5/10 = a disaster!
    • Nose
      Vanilla right at the beginning, honey, maritime notes in the background, chalky and maybe floury? Grated lemons, (wet) grass, by and large a (to me) well-known Pulteney note: sweet, musty, maritime;
    • Taste
      Pepper, herb or sour! Unripe green fruits - green apples and white / green grapes, slightly malty, grassy and also moist wood, subtly salty-maritime, and yes: there is actually the idea of fresh fruit brandy (ui!) ...
    • Finish
      Medium length with a sour note, dry and with a clear oak note at the end;

  5. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    A wind of freshness. Fruity, deep, there is wax. Citric notes that with the opening, are changed into apricot and papaya (?) Enough "littlemillien", which reminds me that I had sample with Olivier Binstok! On the palate, salty and very fruity. An orchard by the sea. Imposing and subtly wooded finish. With a little water, more earthy notes complete the nose, a nice dose of toffee. The mouth is adorned with spices. The finish gives a little coffee and exotic fruits.

    Enthusiasm 5/5

  6. malthead-sven scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    quite out-of-round, the nose first with false notes, but is better, then very pleasant, pure in the mouth very rough, needs some water
    • Nose
      Apples and at first a light glue note, looks quite fresh, fruit cocktail, grapes, bamboo, moist branches, yellow flowers, with water much fresher and more vital, peppermint, after-eight, ice candy with chocolate filling, subtle raspberries and candy canes, fruit buttermilk, Pistachio, vanilla yoghurt
    • Taste
      slightly sour, malty and also slightly spicy, then diluted dry and tingling, has quite a bit of force
    • Finish
      long warming, much more pleasant than the first impression in the mouth, hardly any bitterness, a little floral and pleasantly tingling on the cheeks

  7. Helgo scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

    Surprisingly weak. Here I would have expected more for the age and the distillery. The nose is still ok, but not very diverse. The body is then a bit wider, but not megacomplex. The finish is not very long. Actually, the whisky almost lubricates ... Really a pity! For me personally a little disappointing.

    (note made in the context of a face to face with https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/63512/old-pulteney-1990-ca )
    • Nose
      White peach and aromatic herbs (coriander and fennel). A line of grapefruit.
    • Taste
      White grapes, yellow apples, slightly tart lemons. A pinch of salt sprinkled on these fruits. Vanilla syrup after a while.
    • Finish
      Long. Tangy spices appear and mix with salt, which is more present at this stage. White grapes resist behind spices.
