    Initial scent phenolic but not unpleasant, hints of the cask to come. In the mouth this cask evolves and there is no doubt about its sherry origins. It reminds me of raisins laid to soak in rum. The undiluted strength goes down nicely. This is a very nice Arran indeed, WhB caught an excellent cask. Too bad more bottles are not readily available.

    A dry and unusually fruity affair;
    • Nose
      Dry! Wood or oak, dry-maritime = driftwood on the beach, leather, old ship's paint? A nice sweetness is also there, but quite far down, deeply hidden, slightly nutty, altogether very closed;
    • Taste
      Strong, dry, salty, spicy and really enough oak / wood! Maybe slightly dusty-dry; somehow edgy;
    • Finish
      Dry, full-bodied, warming and medium long;

  4. malthead-sven scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    very pleasing but without much recognition, initially disturbed the alcohol strength in the nose, but is amazingly weak in the mouth and finish, somehow a little pale
    • Nose
      first closed, then clearly apple and then alcohol, cooling, lemon, pineapple, white wine, with water initially dry and dusty, grated almonds, pies, it still contain perfume notes, rose water, heather
    • Taste
      Fruit juice, orange, multi-vitamin, slightly spicy, toothpaste with herbal taste, develops a certain power, but the alcohol is not particularly noticeable
    • Finish
      slightly harsh, not very intense, wood stain, rather short with a mild oak, good length but few facets

    Blind tasting.
    • Nose
      Vanilla, fruity - apple (green Haribo bears), some new spirit, leather and a plesant 'dirty note'.
    • Taste
      Vanilla, leather, fruity - apple, some nuts, spices and citrus.                 No trace of the sherry cask for me.
    • Finish
      Medium drying with citrus, fruity tones and some dried ham.

    N: Fruity, even a bit waxy maybe. Is this really ex-sherry?!

    Spices and nuts are far in the background. Dried apricots and other yellow and other fruits, candied fruit, mandarin. With water: even more fruitty.

    Taste: Spicy arrival, it keeps stinging your toungue like a needle. But in a (somehow) nice and gentle way.

    Fruits ofcourse, a lot again. Citrus and yellow fruit.

    A drop of water kills the stinging peppers brings out more fruit. Some nuts. Makes it creamier too.

    F: Gentler than expected. Not as spicy anymore. Some oak, without getting dry. Sweet taste of the fruit remains.

    This whisky is full of fruit, without the excess vanilla you would get from an ex-bourbon cask. Tasty!

    Definitely a lot oilier than the previous bottling, cask 1381. Must be Fino sherry.
    • Nose
      Oily. Yellow raisin, macadamia nut, apple, caramel and a little banana. Slightly meaty. The apple becomes more prominent when adding water.
    • Taste
      Yellow raisin, apple, nuts, malt, grass and smoke. Oily indeed. With water more caramel and a little vanilla.
    • Finish
      Banana, caramel, yellow raisin, nuts and apple. The finish is very nice.

    • Taste

    • Finish
      Long and sweet, Like the best ever sherry trifle, Need I say more. This is top draw.
