Tasted blind from a sample. There’s zero chance I ever would have guessed this. I was dead-set on this being an ex-bourbon Islay from the first whiff, which might have biased me against noticing any port influence, though wine was vaguely hinted at from a mildly tannic finish. Being a tawny port I’ll not feel too bad for noting absolutely zero fruitiness of any kind, I see this as being fairly dry.
    • Nose
Mellow damp peat smoke, wet wood, creamy (va)nilla wafers. A bit of a medicinal, iodine and chlorine backdrop. Definite coastal salinity here too. Briny.
    • Taste
Charcoal smoke rolls in, but relaxed. Dry and balanced wood influence, nice and oily texture. Oh yeah, this is a bit of a salty one (love the salt). Bandages, too. Super quick hit of barely-sweetened mocha. It’s spicy but not sadistic, no water needed.
    • Finish
Return of the iodine sensation. Really pleasantly dry and bitter on the finish, faintly tannic. Leaves off with relaxed, toasty smoke that keeps you busy for a while.

    nose:
sensation of dry peat, smoke, wood, meat juice, citrus with lemon and a little vanilla and butterscotch.
    slightly peppery
    mouth:
very oily, cold, slightly liquorice smoke, peppery spices, smoked
caramel, slightly salted meat, well-grilled bacon, made wine, a touch of cooking broth, and herbs, dry seaweed!
return of bitterness with herbs and stones
    final:
peppery, earthy, smoky, woody, lemony and cooked zest, cooked wine, a little humus, for a fairly long finish even if monolithic.

(Blind PWC of 21/10/17) A classic well done as a whole. I still place it behind the Septendecim.
    • Nose
A beautiful peat very Sherry, fruity and vanilla.
    • Taste
A very alcoholic mouth, dry on the peat of course but also on the red fruits and the Porto.
    • Finish
An average finish on coffee, peat ... all accompanied by bitterness.

A well-made whisky even if there are few flavors. The spiciness has a certain intensity but is a good counterpoint to the sweetish influence of the port finish. In the end, the sweet component predominates and it sticks - 14.04.2017
    • Nose
Cold, medicinal smoke is noticeable as soon as it is poured and spreads immediately in the room, mineral, a delicate-sweet component is noticeable in the background, some plum, raisin, rosehip, spices, grassy, fresh moss, forest soil, musty, a hint of vanilla is also to be found
    • Taste
Cool, smoky, very spicy, aromatic, the oak is very present, in short ginger sharpness, but on the whole the alcohol is very well integrated and pushes hardly forward, at the end comes again the oak, it remains a spicy bitterness in the sweet liquorice converts
    • Finish
      medium
