Whisky Reviews for Coming from Islay 2007 Cboy

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.11 points

  1. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Unfortunately, I can not really grab Cognac, but you can already tell that there is something on the Bourbon barrel that goes quite well with the smoke and reminds me a bit of rum kegging, very good malt, but nothing that I buy as a whole bottle would
    • Nose
The malt comes from Islay is directly clear, medium smoke level, to sour yellow fruit, vanilla, yogurt, mango, vanilla, nuts, a bit of cereal, citrus, all with smoke, have not really often cognac drunk, so why I can not assign much now
    • Taste
creamy, sweet, vanilla, acid, smoke, cinnamon, orange, mango, yellow, some oak, quite dry from the mouthfeel
    • Finish
astringent, dry smoke, a lot of vanilla, some yellow fruit, no more acidity, chalky

  2. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 70 points Connoisseur

Well done, but I have to get along with Cognac to find something good.
    • Nose
Bittersweet to sour smoke, citrus notes, the influence of cognac is very very strong, ashen, oppressive alcohol
    • Taste
Sweet and smoky, oranges, then the cognac sets the tone again, the smoke and the oak then pack
    • Finish
Again, smoke and a lot of cognac, warming and long

Conclusion: 88/100 points - "peat bomb". With his first bottling Dirk Schlüter has chosen an interesting Islay. This Caol Ila is a real peat monster and unfolds an unexpected impact in the mouth. I recommend to dilute the dram with some water, this will develop more aromas and the whisky is altogether more pleasing. • Nose
Strongly peaty and smoky. Aromas of salty, smoked bacon. In the background are fruity notes of oranges, wine gum and mint. Less intense with water, but slightly sweeter with a little malt.
    • Taste
Intense, peaty, mouth-filling taste experience. The alcohol well integrated. Very powerful. It is hard to taste other flavors besides the very salty smoked bacon. Much more pleasing with water, much sweeter with vanilla and some toffee.
    • Finish
long, salty finish with lots of peat, some smoke and peach. Less peat with water, a bit more salt and more fruit.
