Whisky Reviews for Inchgower 1980 DR

Single dram note, 8 x Inchgower vertical tasting. 10_2012.

Admittedly, ours was the last rest from a full bottle and from a sample bottle which was sitting on the shelf for years, but we did not get any sulphur notes. Maybe that's the secret with this one, although, the bitterness was bothering me still.
    • Nose
treebark, molasses, rum, slight iodine, tannic, old leaves/forrest, leather, later sweeter chocolate notes join in as well. (93)
    • Taste
tannic, sherry, tobacco, fruityness behind, mostly dried raisins & plums, but also some fresh ones but very faint. (93)
    • Finish
even more tannic, turning very bitter (boardering on unpleasant occasionally), herbal, boysenberry seeds, old malt, dark chocolate. (84-93)

Well I can certainly understand what they`re saying, and scoring. Because it...stinks. I mean, the smell is very off. Yet I left this very long in the glass and the bad stuff went away, most of it anyway. Sulphur is certainly there, rubber maybe too, but not burnt. The overseeable bitterness comes from the sulphur. Yeah it`s heavy sherry, and there are people that are quite fond of it, so for them this is ok. I didn`t have a (very) big problem whit this one either, just let it stand in the wind for a while...

The distillate was probably very good, but not the cask. Heavily rubbery, sulphury and on burnt tyres.
