Whisky Reviews for North British 1988 MBl

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.47 points

  1. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Jo, tasty drops, where you can play really nice with water. And at 27 years, sherry barrel and barrel strength you can not complain über'n hundreds.
    • Nose
Milk chocolate, fudge, cinnamon, a light orange touch, comes over like a medium-sherry malt, with water (tolerates a lot, without drowning) is the Grain character clearer, first it's a little towards bourbon, sugary sweet, vanilla, then he has something Irish ... nice thing
    • Taste
very intense, dark chocolate, orange marmalade, candy, molasses, pepper, good oak ... even here, water is good, even at estimated 30-35% does not look thin, but creamy, milk chocolate
    • Finish
long, warm, dry, bitter (between coffee and cough drops) and gentle pungency

  2. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

I like that, ripe, sweet with a dirty component.
    • Nose
Very sweet and very fruity, tropical fruits, very ripe, with toffee, coconut and sherry flavors, oak, cinnamon. Delicious fruit salad.
    • Taste
Sweet in the mouth, some sulfur, some soot, strange, pepper, spices, oak. Here the sherry finish has a good thumb on it.
    • Finish
Sweet, fruity, sherry, some tobacco, slightly verkokelt, some plastic and quite bitter sweet at the end

  3. St. Pauli scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

I suspect that this is a beefed up grain from a cask that has had its best time. The finish did work, as it adds some flavours that you otherwise would directly get in such a dram. Overall, it's a nice daily dram if you like grains.
    • Nose
A rather comlex nose for a grain, also quite delicate. The grainy profile may be masked by the sherry finish influence. Of course, the nose is still on grain, but more discreet. There is sugar alongside (presumably both from the grain and the sherry cask), sweet cinnamon pastry, wood shavings, vanilla, and old leather.
    • Taste
It's powerful, still fairly juicy. Orange zest kicks in, along with some lemon cheesecake. Then, there is muscavado sugar, again the cinnamon pastry, a little dried fruit, and at the end also the wood. The wood is a bit on the bitter side, maybe over the edge.
    • Finish
The finish is rather long, dry, and citric (orange, lemon). The spices still add to the taste, which is good.
