    Expectations were high and I was not disappointed. Great malt from one of the '' golden years '' of whisky production. Compared to the partially totally overloaded modern sherry whiskys, this one is a nice change. The sherry leaves the spirit enough space to be omitted, which is an absolute quality feature for me.
    It was fun!

      To begin:
      Wine gum, slightly charred European oak, sour cherries, malt, mandarins, sultanas and some grass.

      After 20 minutes, rum balls, shortbread biscuits and milk chocolate are added. It also becomes a little more sour.
    • Taste

      Very pleasant mouthfeel.
      Viscous oiliness, very harmonious.
      The oak is noticeable by a slight furry.
      Chocolate-coated raisins, figs, drupes, light rum notes.
    • Finish

      Medium to long.
      Dusty leather, mocha and tobacco.
      Bitterness spreads.
      Nice ending!

    A dreamlike pleasure experience is coming to an end ... Old, dignified, fruity, spicy, intense with a wonderful character, the old Speysider is really fun and appetite for the next dram! Fantastic and delicious!

    • Nose
      Intense reddish amber shines in the glass, a syrupy streak sticks to the glass wall of my Premium Snifter from which you occasionally loosen long and thick "legs". Even from a distance, the sweet and fruity sherry aroma beguiles the nose, my gaze falls again on the oily "legs" on the glass wall, the anticipation of the nosing increases. Sour cherries and sweet raisins flatter the nose, old dark hazelnuts mix with sweet mandarins and abrasion from dried orange peel, a subtle musty and rotten note lies muted in the background while old and spicy wood tones come to the fore. Hints of sour citrus fruits emerge from meadow herbs, caramelized sugar and dark chocolate melt together, old and tasteful leather and tobacco come into their own. The nose is incredibly complex and just a dream!
    • Taste
      Cherries and mandarins flow relatively mildly over the tongue, old wood tones are powerfully distributed over the entire mouth area. Minimal heat tickles the tongue, sour cherries and plums spread their full-bodied aroma under the tongue, the spicy wood aroma intensifies and becomes tart. Old leather mixes with old tobacco, hints of furniture polish stick to the cheeks, roasted hazelnuts play with old walnuts and slivers of almonds. Zest from grapefruit and zest from orange peel spread a slightly sour note, juicy meadow herbs appear, crumbs of dark chocolate stick to the tongue while a few drops of espresso mixes with sour cherry juice. Slowly the mouthfeel becomes creamier and tart, gradually the aftertaste announces itself.
    • Finish
      Dry wood tones with a mixture of tart citrus fruits and sweet, dried grapes and berries stick to the palate, discreetly tart, and old leather with crumbs of tobacco on the tongue appears again. Hazelnuts and walnuts lie creamy in the background, meadow herbs slowly move into the foreground with mint and menthol.

    The malt is not easy to rate. For the ages I would have rated him rounder and more laid-back. The spicy-tart oak tones characterize the overall picture. You have to like that, even if it's not too dominant. An elegant soft Speysider one expects in vain. But if you like the sherry- and clearly oak-emphasized malts, then you will find something here. The powerful spicy-dry sherry bomb remains in my memory. It is a great malt!

      clearly sherry dominated nose, old slightly musty sherry, old books, fermented plum, earthy, now the fermented notes go away and initially soft citrus fruits and slightly sour berries, redcurrants, blackberries and raspberries, in addition to clear oak, from time to time the fruits are candied, Caramel and always the sweetness of the sherry play an important role, followed by sultanas, sweet dates and some milk chocolate, now the nose is completely blooming, the woody wort still remains strong and provides itself with the sherry fruits a power struggle. When the oak dominates, the chocolate becomes bitter, leather and tangy-spicy burley tobacco show up, cooling herbal notes. The nose looks younger, less set than expected.
      In the second nose, the cream / caramel sweet comes out stronger.

      woody, tart oak-like onset, with spicy salt and pepper notes before full-bodied, fruity sherry spreads creamy, old wall unit, plum, dark sweet berries, leather, brown sugar and coffee notes, raisins and creamy sweet at the beginning and end of the taste
    • Finish
      clear bitterness after oak, to menthol, brown sugar and sherry fruits flash through the espresso, a nut mixture with raisins, bitter orange, leather, cocoa, very long dry tart but really great finish, but still leaves a lot of sherry in the mouth.

    It starts with a beautiful, multi-layered nose that offers more than just sherry. The taste is unfortunately a bit too dominated by the oak. Strong oak does not bother me, but it lacks a little counterpoint. The finish is then very classic and again a bit rounder. Good, but not very good blind tasting

      It starts with sweet sherry, followed closely by fresh scents of limes and garden herbs, ground almonds, a hint of woodruff
    • Taste
      A light body and medium onset, much drier than in the nose, neat oak, a little sulfur, espresso and sour cherries, a little currant and slightly bitter herbal notes, a tiny hint of sage
    • Finish
      Dry, bitter beer, some malt, again espresso and dark cocoa powder, medium to long

    Conclusion: 95/100 points - "sherry bomb".
    This successful Speysider offers the full sherry flavor profile without revealing the barrel too much. He looks altogether younger than he really is.
    The "Old Leanach Farmhouse" on the front of the bottle is in the Highlands, so unfortunately this does not allow any conclusion to the distillery, but rumors that it is a Macallan.
    The nose is the best on the whisky, this would give me smooth 98 points. The taste unfolds after a good half hour again strong. Here I recommend to enjoy the whisky with much peace.
    The addition of water is not necessary.

      Strong fruity nose with dark fruits and raisins. Add to that a nice sweetness of brown sugar and caramel. In the background one discovers notes of leather and tobacco, paired with a slightly woody characteristic. Overall balanced and round. Acts younger than he is.
    • Taste
      In the mouth unfolds a palette of sherry flavors. Dark berries, raisins and a subtle fructose sweetness. In the background is cinnamon and dark chocolate. The barrel reports a slight dryness and some tannins.
    • Finish
      A fairly long, dry finish with typical sherry flavors. A light woodiness remains on tap.

    Nearly perfect! Incredibly intense and lush aromas in a splendid present and splendor. Beautifully balanced and with just the right strength to carry the incredible variety of flavors.

    A beautiful old Sherrymalt - but the thing in the mouth and the finish is very oak dominant. Overall, a 91-point pleasure (93-91-89) for me.
    A few drops of water take something away from the strong oak, but in the nose also a hint of fruit depth. Overall for me no significant advantage.

      First come very fine oak notes; with persistence in the glass then fine ripe plums, raisins and some wax. A very nice elegant-spicy old sherry nose.
    • Taste

      The oak is immediately full, followed, as in the nose, by plum and raisins, before again oak and damp cellar take over the aromas. The 47% are just really slightly tingly-invigorating, but not spicy. Even the delicate waxiness returns.
    • Finish

      In the finish, the oak will clearly take the lead. Plum and dried fruit are in the background, the matter is already very dry.

    Older sherry bottlings tend to like a bitter, woody Aftertaste. This filling is pleasing and in my humble opinion, not to. The nose is outstanding, the taste only outstanding. (Grin) 93 points

    A very nice, dignified (presumably) sherry malt. With this great nose I would have more than allowed him a "thicker" appearance on the tongue. But it is probably precisely this unexcited factor that makes him stand out.

      Raisins dipped deep and long in sherry, dried figs and dates, plums. Oak planks stored for a long time, dusty floor. Marzipan bread, nougat, dark chocolate, toffee. Over time, clove powder and nutmeg are added, as well as a little pepper, but it blends in well. A little furniture polish.

      Full notes of sherry in the form of leather, blackberries, grapes and raisins on the tongue. Dry and pleasant start, not too strong. Chocolate, a little cherry jam. Some menthol.
