    Tasting notes Royal Miles

Nose: Initially chlorine and cheesy feet! Thankfully this soon dissipated to leave an intriguing dram. Savoury elements (gravy and cranberry sauce) combined with Seville oranges, fudge, Turkish Delight, Rum Pot and nettles.
Taste: Syrupy and rum-sweet but balanced with cinnamon spices and bitter dark chocolate.

Overall: A most intriguing nose, a delicious palate. A perfectly rounded experience for the mouth.

    Glenrothes, 1972 Vintage (Scotland)
Initially very sweet on the nose, orange marmalade, developing spices, and the wood and leather smell of a vintage car. Full bodied and rich on the palate. The spices follow through from the nose, with a faint suggestion of mint and eucalyptus. The finish is long, spicy, smooth and sweet to the end. 43.0% ABV, 70cl, 190, specialist whisky merchants.

    Whiskyfun by Serge

Glenrothes 1972/2004 (43%, OB)Colour: amber. Nose: extremely honeyed at first nosing, with also lots of pollen, mead, fresh butter Very clean and rather pure. Some superb winey notes (fino, Jura vin jaune) and lots of vegetables, mashed potatoes, braised carrots, salsify. Very complex, probably better than any other Glenrothes I had before. Hints of porridge, fresh cream, green gooseberries and pears. Some vanilla fudge, sabayone, camomile tea. Most delicate but not thin in any way. Mouth: sweet but not sugary, oaky but not too tannic, starting on apricot jam, Mirabelle jam, apple pie, flower nectar, light breakfast honey Some quince jelly as well, the whole being nicely peppery. Hints of dried ginger and lots of vanilla, with a bit of Turkish delight. Excellent! Medium long finish, on soft pepper and just a little nutmeg. Pure pleasure. 90 points (November 23, 2005)

Glenrothes 1972/2004 (43%, OB) Colour: gold-amber. Nose: starts on lots of honey and caramel, dried fruits, with lots of freshness. Some spices as well (juniper). Notes of tangerines, mirabelle plums jam, apricots Not tired in anyway and very elegant. Mouth: again, quite fresh and fruity, slightly caramelly. Lots of honey and lots of elegance. Goes on with a little white pepper and hints of mint. Grows more and more peppery (also nutmeg) and honeyed with time with also roasted nuts. The finish isn't too long and funnily salty and vanilled. In short it all pleasure, elegance and drinkability. 90 points. (June 30, 2006)

    Malt Maniacs

The Glenrothes 1972/2004 (43%, OB) was one of the more expressive OB's I've encountered so far.
Nose: Polished. Big and fruity. Prickle. Glue and old coffee? Very restrained at first. Old cigarette smoke.
Taste: Sweet, big and fruity. Tia Maria. Sherried with a touch of smoke. Some tannins. Metallic. Malty finish.
Score: 84 points - a very enjoyable and refined single malt that definitely deserves a shiny bronze medal.

    Glenrothes 1972 32 year old, Vintage, 43%,
A very richly textured Glenrothes. A heavy, honeyed maltiness provides the foundation of this whisky, with interwoven candied fruit notes (orange, tangerine, sultana), red and black licorice, toffee, and toasted almonds. Dry, spicy, oak notes balance its sweetness and provide depth. What impresses me most about this whisky is how it evolves on the palate and continues evolving through its lengthy finish.

Jim Murray Whisky Bibel 3rd/4th/5th Edition

The Glenrothes1972 04 db (88) n23 plump sultanas and suet pudding; t23 spectacular marriage between yielding malt and vine fruit; f20 dries and dies rather too quickly, with oak having all the say; b22 a shy malt for this age, releasing all its complexity on the intrinsic, suety/fruity nose and mouth arrival that is simply to die for. Old age catches up on the flat finish, though 43%
