I was able to buy the drop last for just under 35 € and had not very high expectations, which were clearly exceeded. For a "only" 8-year-old whisky Bunnahabhain is quite complex, the alcohol content of 43% very well involved and hit good for the whisky (neither too lax, nor too strong). Of course, you do not get a Complexity Monster, but I'm just impressed!
    • Nose
strong smoke, some sweetness crystallizes out, maybe vanilla / caramel, a dash of lime / lemon permeates the cloud of smoke, slightly maritime, some wood
    • Taste
surprisingly oily, slightly creamy, fine sweetness on the tip of the tongue, distinct smoke, but not as strong as in the nose, overall makes the Malt a very balanced impression, the sweetness harmonizes well with the smoke, light exotic fruit notes arise - but are for Too hard to define (pineapple, papaya?)
    • Finish
long-lasting smoke, the finish becomes a little spicier, oak emerges discreetly, the sweetness at the tip of the tongue "survives" quite a long time

Bunnahabhain 8 years "Heavily Peated", 43% alc. Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail

Nose: Fresh, smoky and then becoming drier. With phenol, cod and spices. Slightly mineral, glowing campfire on a pebble beach, flotsam and sea salt. Behind it is a light aroma of seaweed and herbs.

Palate: Surprisingly sweet at first, then becomes more savory and salty dry. Sea salt, heather and seaweed, some pepper and dry wood smoke, followed by smoked eel.

Finish: Medium length, dry and refreshing. Some mint, again the sweetness and already a slight bitterness with spices from the oak.

Conclusion: Easy drinking, nice dram for lovers of smoky malts. 85/100 points (2015)

    Simple, but effective. Enthusiasm 3/5 Whisky n ° 1438
    • Nose
Peat a little meaty, paprika. It's young, but not so bright. Rather sweet, on vanilla.
    • Taste
This duo peat / vanilla works very well at 43%, I think that 46% have been close to aggression.
    • Finish
      With pep!

fresh casks obviously, lovely eucalyptus notes, reminds me slightly of Laphroaig
    • Nose
present peat smoke, but not exaggerated, phenolic, medicinal, charcoal, vanilla sugar, cowshed, salt, briny, mineral, fresh, crisp, unripe citrus, light body, mild grain, eucalyptus, chocolate with marzipan filling.

Smoke, sweetness and that briny thing are very balanced
    • Taste
sweet, phenolic peat smoke, slightly bitter, prickles, briny, medicin on refined sugar cube, chalk, cowshed, sheep wool, mild grain, american oak and licorice, cooling freshness, thick and creamy mouthfeel
    • Finish
very dry, smoke and eucalyptus stay, oak is more present

I am a strong friend of the peaty Bunnas. Unfortunately, the strength is missing here. If you're young, cask strength is what you need. Nevertheless, good PLV!

Yes, I'm here, all the way up here - in the boardroom above the G&M shop in Elgin, for a bespoke tasting. After a simple yet welcomed lunch, expectations were high for five drams to follow [starting with a Glen Spey WB]. We were all hoping it would be a high five, but four down let’s hope this is a good ’un.
    N: Sweet peat, vegetal bonfire.
C: Another 'nothing wrong' drams but golly, I'm quickly tiring of these young, generic, peated malts - and there are so many of them around right now [2016]. Wow, and that concludes the in-house G&M tasting. No high five, not even a high one. All that stock and this! Most deflating - and then there are the shop prices! Moving swiftly on.

12/8/15 151166 clear, but not exaggerated smoke, more phenolic / medicinal, charcoal, vanilla sugar (for baking), some cowshed, salt, mineral, fresh & clean , crisp, some citrus fruit like hard lemon, light body, mild grain, eucalyptus , whole milk chocolate with marzipan the smoke, sweetness and the mineral-fresh character are in a balanced relationship, looks round and full despite the small age in the mouth then really sweet together with clear phenolic smoke, Meditonsin, to a slight bitterness, bitter medicine on sugar cubes, tingling, mineral, chalk / lime, besides, the cowshed, vll. sheep wool ?, cereals, a little mild amer. Oak, liquorice the finish is very dry, smoke and eucalyptus remain a little longer, oak is more pronounced Great eucalyptus note in the nose, the alcohol strength fits very well, barrels seem to have been active. The nose is slightly reminiscent of Laphroaig 10 years (phenole, vanilla, clean), slightly chilled (about 15 ° C) also very interesting. Longer in the air -> clearer vanilla, the mouthfeel gets thicker, creamier, the oak becomes clearer, an initial alcohol note disappears completely
