Whisky Reviews for Yoichi Peaty & Salty

- Outstanding peaty version of Yoichi. How I wish they did more or these!
- Well, as I'm on my second bottle of this lovely little distillery exclusive--and have hoarded as many as possible--it's safe to share a note...
On the nose, bubble gum accompanied by salty, smokey sea breeze.
On the palate, this is a young fresh offering with the bubble gum promised in wafts on the nose washing ashore in waves initially unflavored (followed by pronounced banana and vanilla flavors), gently disappearing into the sand, bringing out the surfer in you (i.e., though loath to put down your glass, you're looking for the next wave).
The mouthfeel is on the oily side, a little sweet, with vanilla and cream, but there is little in the way of woodspice to speak of, other than the tannin on the finish.
It's not of the complexity one expects from Yoichi, but that makes it refreshingly different, and in a decidedly refreshing manner.
Crushed petals, may be a salted vanilla? Finely paired with ripe
tropical fruits, although salts are not obvious here, but surely an
coastal peat, fishing ropes, dried seaweed.
P- Creamy sweet
with admirable strength. Sour fruits, hints of leather. Not as masculine
as regular Yoichi, but this composition make a much softer and
accessible to most palate.
F- Medium-long, return of ripe fruits, berries, light salt bitterness.
