A very unusual and complex Springbank, which despite all its otherness still has the typical Springbank characteristics. The freshness of the barrels you notice this bottling, the wine is dominant and blends in with the sour notes quite wonderful in the harsh Springbank complexity. Just beautiful!
    • Nose
The light smoke and the acidity of the wine directly provide a very exceptional entry into this Springbank - he smells a bit of burnt fruit compote with rhubarb and berries. Juicy orange and lime peels, vanilla and over and over fruit acid, which waters my mouth even when smelling. After a little warmth of the hand, it becomes noticeably sweeter and the typical oily and salty spice of Springbank comes through, albeit much more subdued than usual.
Alcohol is not distracting at any time. For a pretty young 12 year old with cask strength already amazing.
    • Taste
The whole mouth is immediately flooded with a breathtaking sugary sweetness! The typical Springbank sharpness comes later, then the spice and again the sour fruit notes of the wine. Distinct wood notes of the barrel complete the whole thing with a bitter dryness.
    • Finish
In the long finish somewhat grassy and light tannins of the wine, barely fruity. Some oak is also added. A sweet-and-sour plume of smoke lingers the longest

So far, I can not cope with any of the more experimental Springer barrels, and here too the case is no different, always too biting, metallic, everything, you notice the potential of the spirits behind it, too bad.
    • Nose
Vinegar, metal, small change, citrus acid, light raisins, light honey, vanilla, menthol, toffee, hazelnuts, hints of salt, alcohol, some cherries and some pepper
    • Taste
Again, this vinegar, sour grapes, sweet licorice, pickled raspberries, snappy alcohol, tea notes, something earthy and metal
    • Finish
Snappy, tannins, dry, oak, sweetish malt and liquorice, medium length

some spice madness on my mom's apple caramel crust ....

Now: candy box open, licorice out!
    • Nose
Salty strawberries come to my mind first, very red wine, also raspberries are here, a little cold smoke, then comes an insanely concise liquorice note, salt liquorice at its best, including comes through again and again the metal bucket, which I have often had at Springbank
    • Taste
Sweet strawberries and a lot of red wine directly back to the beginning, then comes a strong start together with now more noticeable smoke, the oak spice dries out the mouth slightly, but everything fits wonderfully to the recurring licorice
    • Finish
Mouth-filling and warming with oak, red wine and a again soft smokiness, the mouth finally feels as if it had eaten a packet of licorice - great

An 88 with the first dram out of the bottle, but does not oxidize very well, hence a 86 at the end of the bottle. Musty, slightly hot and spicy on the finish.

If this is the yardstick, burgundy casks work as well as bourbon or sherry. A nice, wholly normal one.
    • Nose
At first it has this quite stingy aroma about as if lightly roasted coffee and turpentine. When I got the water right it is amazingly close to the basic contemporary line of SB: a bit less chlorine and almond, a bit more marzipan and pistachios, a bit less toffee and instead some really faint raspberry or strawberry. Some ammonium chloride, quite sweet and very soft. Very lightly smoky. All in all a quite flawless basic contemporary SB, I really couldn't guess the cask.
    • Taste
Just basic SB here, a delicioushoneyd malt, marzipan, light smoke, a little less aspirin-bitterness than many other SB's nowadays, which is good. It is even harder to recognise the cask then in the nose.
    • Finish
      Nice, semi-long mildly smoky marzipan.

nose Saltish sea breeze mixed with fresh strawberries and strawberry grandmother's jam, fresh country milk, and wine, red noble wine, wonderful nose

Taste salty mineral, butter, a little pepper and spices, tannins

Aftertaste - vanilla, sea salt, bitter chocolate, orange peel, of medium duration, goes into the light bitterness of barrel olives

excellent whisky, balanced, tasty, especially good nose
