Now: candy box open, licorice out!
    • Nose
Salty strawberries come to my mind first, very red wine, also raspberries are here, a little cold smoke, then comes an insanely concise liquorice note, salt liquorice at its best, including comes through again and again the metal bucket, which I have often had at Springbank
    • Taste
Sweet strawberries and a lot of red wine directly back to the beginning, then comes a strong start together with now more noticeable smoke, the oak spice dries out the mouth slightly, but everything fits wonderfully to the recurring licorice
    • Finish
Mouth-filling and warming with oak, red wine and a again soft smokiness, the mouth finally feels as if it had eaten a packet of licorice - great

I trust Springbank more with a wine cask than I do with a sherry cask, to be honest. It’s either poor cask management, or they are cheap, because many of their sherry casks are sulphured. Probably the latter. And I love Springbank, but it cannot be ignored. Anyways, springbank and wine go well together! Something about the raw mineral spirit and earthy herbal red wine is a good combo. Case in point here. Great little bottling!

Starts on chewable vitamins, dry leaves and twigs in the fall, calcium, chalk. A little acidity. Red berries - almost like a róse wine.
    • Taste
      89 89
Milk chocolate, leafy and herbal. Good mouthfeel. Red berries turn darker. Gets deeper and richer. Still some calcium, but nice and rich on the palate.

Vitamins and calcium back into focus, drying, dark berries turn back to red berries. Chalky. Earthy smoke builds.

A very unusual and complex Springbank, which despite all its otherness still has the typical Springbank characteristics. The freshness of the barrels you notice this bottling, the wine is dominant and blends in with the sour notes quite wonderful in the harsh Springbank complexity. Just beautiful!
    • Nose
The light smoke and the acidity of the wine directly provide a very exceptional entry into this Springbank - he smells a bit of burnt fruit compote with rhubarb and berries. Juicy orange and lime peels, vanilla and over and over fruit acid, which waters my mouth even when smelling. After a little warmth of the hand, it becomes noticeably sweeter and the typical oily and salty spice of Springbank comes through, albeit much more subdued than usual.
Alcohol is not distracting at any time. For a pretty young 12 year old with cask strength already amazing.
    • Taste
The whole mouth is immediately flooded with a breathtaking sugary sweetness! The typical Springbank sharpness comes later, then the spice and again the sour fruit notes of the wine. Distinct wood notes of the barrel complete the whole thing with a bitter dryness.
    • Finish
In the long finish somewhat grassy and light tannins of the wine, barely fruity. Some oak is also added. A sweet-and-sour plume of smoke lingers the longest

really great jumper, the wine harmonizes wonderfully with the Brennereicharakter. Highly recommended
    • Nose
clear, slightly musty smoke (surprisingly dominant, almost a longrow), cooling peppermint (alcohol squeezes), sweet and salty note (soy sauce), strawberries with green pepper (every time), fermented red grapes and wood (wine notes), gingerbread Spices (cardamom, nutmeg, clove, anise)
    • Taste
immediately creamy sweet licorice, dark fruit (almost like port wine), strawberries and raspberries, dry smoke, spiced tea (getting drier), extremely round (no water needed), warming
    • Finish
soft smoke, streaked with a fine salt note and oak

a direct hit for Springbank purists, but could still use some years for a better integration of the alcohol - definitely add some water
    • Nose
My first association: I am sitting in a damp wine cellar and have a ....... Spring bench (!) In the glass.
Salty and maritime, some smoke, rose wine, gooseberries, currant jelly, grapes, relatively alcoholic, after some time I hear strawberry jam and some soap
    • Taste
Also in the mouth a classic Springbank, but packed with the wine component, without water very hot on the tongue.
It gets fleshy with a few drops of water, red berries like cranberries and currants, fully ripe white grapes and sea salt
    • Finish
medium long with red berry fruits and a hint of smoke

Very interesting whisky. With a beautiful interplay of aromas. I liked that very much.
    • Nose

Starts off slightly smoky, cool and leathery. The leather looks greased. Seared orange slices and anise. It seems rather light-fruity to me right now. Direction of overripe apricots. In addition a little solvent. I'll leave my colleague standing ...
With a little time in the glass, the guy looks greasy. A sweet, fermented berry note joins it. It doesn't seem so cool either. Significantly more set and denser. Now I also find dark cherries from the glass. A pleasant spice nicely plays around what is happening in the glass. Some hazelnut flashes in the meantime.
    • Taste
First soft start. Kind of dry - creamy. Then the berries clearly in the taste. This fine mineral smoke also asserts itself right away. Becomes earthier. Charred marzipan and a herbal note that reminds me of sage. The wort comes through better with the second sip. Something like cloves and white pepper. A pleasantly sour fruit taste spreads. In addition, honey and a fresh note of wood.
    • Finish
Medium to long. First dry, finely smoky and minerally spicy. But then again tart and at the same time creamy and sweet. Almost everything there. : D

Nose: first really earthy. This has to go a little bit until the fruit comes to the fore, then it will be pretty strawberry-like, so it will be properly berry. After a few smells this strawberry beats towards PEZ candy, you know the things with the tilting head or? At the end, a fine mint note is added, but that could also be the alcohol.

Mouth: sweet with a tough start. So there the alcohol is already strong, but clearly a jumper, this earthy, dirty I know of the Hazelburn, which I still have open at the time. The fruit is full again, or straw is the straw, I do not know. By the way, the strong alcohol disappears quite fast on the tongue. What I like but really good is the fine oak note that lasts a long time. Not at all bitter but nice long it remains in the aftertaste. Incidentally, the second sip is much more harmonious and pleasant than the first.

Conclusion: after the first sip it would not have been the 88 points in my rating, but it is developing well, really delicious towards the end! Especially the fruity note develops nicely. Think the base points hit him pretty well.
