So far, I can not cope with any of the more experimental Springer barrels, and here too the case is no different, always too biting, metallic, everything, you notice the potential of the spirits behind it, too bad.
    • Nose
Vinegar, metal, small change, citrus acid, light raisins, light honey, vanilla, menthol, toffee, hazelnuts, hints of salt, alcohol, some cherries and some pepper
    • Taste
Again, this vinegar, sour grapes, sweet licorice, pickled raspberries, snappy alcohol, tea notes, something earthy and metal
    • Finish
Snappy, tannins, dry, oak, sweetish malt and liquorice, medium length

Now: candy box open, licorice out!
    • Nose
Salty strawberries come to my mind first, very red wine, also raspberries are here, a little cold smoke, then comes an insanely concise liquorice note, salt liquorice at its best, including comes through again and again the metal bucket, which I have often had at Springbank
    • Taste
Sweet strawberries and a lot of red wine directly back to the beginning, then comes a strong start together with now more noticeable smoke, the oak spice dries out the mouth slightly, but everything fits wonderfully to the recurring licorice
    • Finish
Mouth-filling and warming with oak, red wine and a again soft smokiness, the mouth finally feels as if it had eaten a packet of licorice - great

An 88 with the first dram out of the bottle, but does not oxidize very well, hence a 86 at the end of the bottle. Musty, slightly hot and spicy on the finish.

There’s a lot to like about Springbank 12 year old Burgundy, especially the nose, which is quite the lovely thing. The combination of wine with the underlying Springbank mineral, earthy/peaty style works exceptionally well in this instance - and it still feels like a very old school style whisky. Flavours are pronounced, varied and interestingly composed, and the oak doesn’t make an appearance until the finish, where its drying influence is welcome and altogether rather pleasant. Perhaps a bit overly saccharine in places, but I’m starting to nit-pick now - this is very solid whisky indeed.

    • Nose
A pronounced combination of steely minerals, earthy dunnage warehouses and bright, juicy red berries – quite wonderful. Smoke is a supporting aroma here, but it touches all aspects of the whisky – intermingling with charred raspberries, singed strawberries and caramelised cherries – whilst also delivering a slightly coastal brininess. Sharp black pepper is perceptible and adds another layer of interest. A few drops of water ups the sweetness levels a notch with both stewed plums and golden honey.
    • Taste
An arrival that is part oily and part zingy – the red wine influence can be detected immediately. Red berries, grapes (no surprise there) and chilli peppers are joined by sherbet and citric minerality. In the mid palate, chocolate intermingles with wet soils, mosses and earthy peat – surprisingly sweet in places. There’s still a fair dunnage influence here, mustiness, damp….a bit on the dirty side. The addition of water ups the sweetness again, coating the berry fruit in a dusting of icing sugar, as well as emphasising some of the Campbeltown peat – pungent with a slight rubbery edge.
    • Finish
Medium in length, quite drying, quite tannic and with plenty of oak – but still rather sweet.

really great jumper, the wine harmonizes wonderfully with the Brennereicharakter. Highly recommended
    • Nose
clear, slightly musty smoke (surprisingly dominant, almost a longrow), cooling peppermint (alcohol squeezes), sweet and salty note (soy sauce), strawberries with green pepper (every time), fermented red grapes and wood (wine notes), gingerbread Spices (cardamom, nutmeg, clove, anise)
    • Taste
immediately creamy sweet licorice, dark fruit (almost like port wine), strawberries and raspberries, dry smoke, spiced tea (getting drier), extremely round (no water needed), warming
    • Finish
soft smoke, streaked with a fine salt note and oak

Grenade, everything I like, full pounds. brilliant
    • Nose
Viney, oily, slightly sulphurous, slightly almond-nutritious, cherries, plum jam, black currants, a hint of smoke
    • Taste
the dry smoke, then grapes, here too the almonds, a little sulfur here too, cherries, black currants, some cinnamon, very fruity
    • Finish
Still the fruits, the sulfur, the nuttiness, then also the smoke, some barrel-wort
