Overall, it is a rich, strong whisky, but the complexity is not too high, and the taste is still relatively acceptable
    • Nose
Intense aromas of sandalwood, sour plum, stewed fruit, sherry, and complex spices
    • Taste
Spicy in the mouth, but with old wood, milk chocolate
    • Finish
Short finish, spicy and slightly metallic

    Dark copper. Thin medium legs.
All spice on this one.  Very rich fruits. Dark fruits. Caramelised pineapple. Dried apricots  ginger snaps and stewed plums Dark chocolate old leather books. So much spicy oak. Heaps of oak influence.
Incredible spice on palate. Big fruitcake.  Orange rind. Very intense.  With some water it’s excellent. Quite dry and nutty  aftertaste
    Great malt.

The A'bunadh are just awesome! For almost 60 € and always about 60 turns you can (not) do anything wrong. The PLV benchmark for a "sherry bomb".

Dark cacao, intensive, dark chocolate, tannins, astringent, a kind of rum-taste meets me

[August, 2016] Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 50 Euro in August, 2016.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5. My notes state "improves nicely after some water added".

One of the better batches. Good sherry punch and no sulphur detected
Great value for money - as usual

  12. Dominik scored this whisky 88 points Member Senior

Dark and strong whisky. Sherry bomb with a punch and very fairly priced at EUR 50-60 as of this writing.

P.S.: After adding a drop or two of water, the A'bunadh became even more creamy for me, mostly on stronger caramel and fruity cherry aromas.
    • Nose
Strong sherry with dried fruits (raisins) and a peppery spiciness on top of the sweetness. Cinnamon and oranges.
    • Taste
The sweetness dominates at first, dark fruits (ripe cherries) with dark chocolate. Creamy in the mouth. Then hints of wood and a burning spiciness coming, perhaps, from the 60.9% alcohol content. Still pleasant and well-rounded though, even without water.
    • Finish
Medium length finish, still mostly sweet. The spicy notes dissipate quickly, leaving a pleasant dry sherry taste mixed with oak.

The A'bunadh are always very good bill, and I recommend all new lovers of sherry rush.
For my part, I think I went around this traffic jam - it was my fifth batch.

    Enthusiasm 3/5

    Whisky n ° 1404
    • Nose
A not-so-pleasant note of cardboard that happily vanishes quickly enough, supplanted by dried fruits, leather. It's rich, round, honeyed. Toffee. I was expecting something more "snoring". With a little water, he releases all his greed.
    • Taste
Intense, on the sherry obviously, very spicy. A note of "my darling" (no pun, please). A direct, relatively uncomplicated side reflects its relatively young age.
    • Finish
      Intense and spicy finish

  14. markjedi1 scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

This a'bunadh is again wonderful, especially on the nose.
    • Nose
The nose is surprisingly soft on plum marmalade, grilled pineapple, red shoelace candy (remember this?) and overripe strawberries. Lovely notes of toffee apples and dark chocolate. However, if you leave it to breath for more than a few minutes, a touch of rubber appears.
    • Taste
On the palate it is (obviously) all about sherry notes: plums, dades, dark chocolate, raisins, figs and again strawberries. It is still surprisingly quaffable without water. I had expected a bomb of alcohol, but this one does not burn. It reminds me somewhat of very old sherry (doh! again), but on steroids. Dark and sweet as can be expected from a'bunadh.
    • Finish
The finish is very long and spicy with a salty death. It leaves the mouth parched.

very good, and a real sensation at that price.
    • Nose
the expected sherry bomb but with a lighter profile than the last batch I´ve tried (#52). sultanas and prunes, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice. crystallized orange peel, crystallized ginger, some mushroomy aromas, rubber bands
    • Taste
a very fresh sherry taste with obligatory dried fruits, but also a good amount of orange, very spicy and mouthwatering.
    • Finish
      long, warm, mouth watering

Stunning presence of sherry, I guess you love it or hate it.
    • Nose
Some cognac ahead. A real sherry bomb. Somehow soap or dish detergent. When you breath in deeply, pleasent sweetness of a strong red (sweet) wine or brandy. Cinnamon, vanilla crescents and cherry.
    • Taste
Sherry through and through. The impression of soap again. Cherry and cacao. A bit dry. Hints of brandy again. Bit by bit some bitter oak, but hidden behind the strong sherry.
    • Finish
Finally, more and more herbs show up. Bitter almond and hazelnut. Dark chocolate. The finish is not very long, the intensity declines quickly. However, some sherry just won't fade out.

    • Nose
Slightly alcoholic, very strong sherry notes, some milk chocolate, oranges, leather and a pleasant oak flavor.
    • Taste
Extremely powerful start with 60.9 turns. Dominant sherry notes, cherries, dates and cocoa and coffee beans open up the tremendous taste explosion. It is followed by oranges, a touch of vanilla / caramel, red fruits and a neat nuttiness, paired with spicy oak notes. Without water, the whisky, depending on the shape of the day, for me quite good drinkable. When adding a few drops of water, however, you should be careful with the dosage, as the Aberlour tends quickly to "dilute" and thus easily lose its intense aromas variety.
    • Finish
Medium length, fruity sherry notes, caramel and spicy oak notes accompany the finish. Some bittersweet chocolate and orange peel complete the harmonious finish.

    To
be honest, after having tasted a different, older batch some time ago in a bar,
I expected more sherry character. This is tasty stuff, no doubt, but especially
undiluted it cannot mask its relative immaturity. It is beyond metallic youth,
but not quite there, where I’d like to have my sherry bombs at. Hardly tertiary
notes, that make sherried malts so complex and brooding.
    • Nose
      Pungent
alcohol upfront. This will need some air. (10-15 minutes have passed). Remains
quite austere. Hints of salted prunes and currant intermingle with almonds that
are bordering on marzipan. With water:
savory notes are emerging slowly. However, just as quick as balsamic vinegar
and ham are there, they are gone again. Evanescent allusions to older age I
presume. The water/malt concoction balances itself on sweet toffee and vanilla
      at last.
    • Taste
      Spirity,
very sweet, with licorice and menthol. With
water: retains all its characteristics quite well – adding a lot of toffee
and caramel. The oak is balanced.
    • Finish
      Medium.
No bitterness at all, with caramel and milk chocolate.

I recently had batch # 54 in my jar. Very similar, with the nose of Batch # 55 being more fruity in my memory. I will still have the A'Bunadh on my screen. Good no-ager.
    • Nose
      85 85
      Without water:
The alcohol covers many aromas, but sherry can be made out, along with chocolate raisins and leather.
      With water:
Now comes more of everything. In addition tart spices, tobacco notes, dark chocolate. Some fresh grass and maybe a touch of sulfur.
    • Taste
      86 86
In the start, which is still strong even with water, notes of dark chocolate, toffee and cocoa come directly. Roasted coffee beans join in and after a while roasted orange peel appears. There is cinnamon, maybe also coriander, in any case a mixture of almonds, Hael- and walnuts.
    • Finish
      86 86
Long and medium dry, with herbs, oak and a little orange bitter lemonade.

Quite a Sherry assault at full strength. But only needs a few drips of water to bring it down to a palatable level for me. This batch holds up very well compared to previous batches I've had (46,47,49)

A'bunadh consistenly delivers and consistently represents amazing value for money to me.
    • Nose
As usual with the A'bunadhs, there is plenty going on. There are notes of milk chocolate, roasted coffee beans, dried prunes, dates, leather and oak.
    • Taste
Rich, condensed and in-your-face. Plenty of dried dark fruits, strawberry marmelade, espresso, spices with cloves and cinnamon.
    • Finish
Quite long, on the fruity side with no excessive bitterness or sharpness due to the supposedly dropping age of the whisky.

Again, a great thing - about 1,500 things to solve
    • Nose
Without water: dark ripe fruit, coffee, chocolate, spiciness and rising alcohol. Lehounce then feel mint. With water: sherry, but more sweet chocolate, vanilla, some woody. Water smells a little, but what a rich substitute for it.
    • Taste
Without water: chocolate, sour cherries, alcohol. With water: firstly sherry and oranges. Later on sweet dark fruits, chocolate. nuts - a parade
    • Finish
Without water: Long reverberation - sherry, fruit overflowed with chocolate, sweet nuts, at the end a little salt. With water: once again long - but chocolate and nuts, but at the end it is again a pinch of salt.

a very good sherry bomb with an especially pleasant nose

it might be me, as I prefer it neat even at this strenght, but I advice to go gradualy on the water
    • Nose
first impression is gentle, no telling of the +60% ABV

very sweet on dark fruits, thick plum jam, well aged sherry, candy shopp,

      hint of strawberries and pineapple

with water the sherry mellows a little and the fruit becomes lighter, brownies and notes of apple
    • Taste
full on sherry blast, again dark fruit, plums, raisins, prunes, with soft spice, dark chocolate, neat the ABV is noticeable but not unpleasant,

watered down to 40-45 it kind of break down and fade out, still not bad but a lot less interesting

somehow it seems to come together again if left for half an hour
    • Finish
dark coco turning to fudge, slightly salty licorice, a little drying bitterness, medium lenght

with water the drying sensation disapears and at the very end there are some more of the lighter red berries; strawberry and rasberry, left to settle the finish become more nutty
