1968 very nice sherry cask smell and powerfully flavours nice colour. Rarely seen age

The nose is awesome, a shame the rest can't keep up. But it was great to try a time capsule.

Oloroso, nutty, rum, grapes, raisins, caramel, wood glue and some bacon

Drier than expected, woody, slightly alcoholic. He needs water. I find it ideal at about 48%. Is now sweeter and the wood is less. The Oloroso from the nose is much drier here, a nut and raisin mix (trail mix), banana bread, coffee and truffle oil?

Oloroso, spicy and surprisingly short. Alcoholic tingling remains.

    SMWS Tasting Notes

Reminiscent of cold nights and warm fires, the nose had a stunning mix of Christmas cake and mulled wine. There were also oily nuts, bananas and Demerara rum. The reduced nose was well-balanced with treacle toffee, cream soda and vanilla. There was a little trace of rubber but the palate is mostly sweet, rich and dark. With water there was a lot of sweetness (brown sugar) and lots of spiciness (Christmas cake mix). The Panel also detected notes of egg nog, brown bread, dates and vanilla. A perfect winter warmer. From the distillery that was founded by John Duff in the late nineteenth century.

Nose: mulled wine, nuts, dark rum, Christmas cake.

Taste: warm, sherried, mulled wine, more cake, spices linger at back.

    Finish: long, warm and spicy.

Probably at it`s very limit, but wonderfully charming, refined and delightful whisky.
