    official information:

WICKLOW RARE - SMALL BATCH, BLENDED IRISH WHISKEY

“Blend – 80% Grain / 20% Ten year old malt. Matured in first fill Bourbon barrels for 4 years, Finished in Oloroso casks for 6 months. 43% ABV”

Pale gold in color. Aromas of vanilla, honey and baked fruits (confit). Very smooth entry and then expansive with a mouth coating, oily texture. Mid palate shows a nuttiness and warmth with hints of raisin and plum. Long, clean finish with subtle marmalade notes and caramel.

The Wicklow Blend is as mysterious as the ancient mountains that this blended Irish Whiskey is named for.

For me, green apple is the first impression on the nose, promising a sour, sweet freshness. At the same time, an exquisite perfume, freshly stained oak wood and resinous pine cones wrestle for supremacy. Pine nuts and summer flowers as well as cocoa powder with its bitter-sweet spice are added, as well as a touch of sherry raisins and walnuts. In the mouth there is a clear sharpness, sweet-tart woodiness like from a fresh toothpick that you chew on because you can no longer smoke in the pub ;-) The walnuts could be again, but also something oily, like fresh rubber. Licorice is there, maybe ginger too. In the finish, these impressions remain present for a moment and gradually change into a leathery and finally grassy reverberation.

No idea what went wrong with that, I was actually looking forward to it - beautiful Irishman, 1st fill bourbon, promising notes from other people.
But then: nasty, sprightly, bitter stuff, immature, scratchy.
I succeeded in 2 attempts with the best will not because something positive rauszuholen.
It can not lie on the sample, even bottled, bottle from a trustworthy source.

Dr Whiskey drank this sample at the tasting in Yalta at the restaurant. The blend was very simple in taste and aroma, but versatile, it has an interesting character - the aroma is very grainy, even rye, there seems to be no malt spirits here, but it tastes soft, caramel, malt. It will be possible to try to take the Central Bank.

    Colour: gold
Nose: perfume, caramel, muffins, varnish, apples and light grain spirit notes.
Mouth: sweet, light, perfume, apples, spices and light fruit notes.
Finish: middle, sweet, spices, apples, apple peel, fruits.
Barr An Uisce is a good, smooth and easy drinkable whiskey.

A delicate blended Irish whiskey with an oily texture. Smooth and
velvety at first, but expansive on the palate with a bold spiciness,
lovely balanced with the luscious fruitiness. A fine, rich and nicely
    potable all-day dram.

I thank Irish Whiskeys for the sample!

    • Nose
Fresh and fruity start on the nose with vanilla, butterscotch, yellow
apples and pears. Hints of freshly mown grass nicely mingle with
peaches, a touch of lemon and subtle oak in the back.
    • Taste
Deliciously sweet on the palate with candied sugar, toffee and vanilla.
Subtle floral, followed by a lovely warming spiciness of oak, cinnamon
and white pepper. Luscious ripe peaches, subtle plums and a hint of
raisins linger with a fine lemon note towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long, lovely warm and sweet with candied sugar,
caramel, and sticky peach jam. Becomes slightly drier on the tail with
oak and subtle bitter lemon peel.

      WITH WATER: Water significantly
enhances the fruity flavours of this blend, bringing more peaches,
apples and lemons to the fore. Hints of floral notes with slightly
decreased vanilla and butterschotch. There's also more fruit on the
palate, especially peaches and plums, lovely mixed with vanilla and
blossom honey. The spiciness is a bit tamed with water, The finish is
medium long with clearly more spices - oak, black pepper, cinnamon and
nutmeg. Becomes subtle dry towards the end.
