Whisky Reviews for Teeling 2002

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.75 points

  1. Archer scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A flawless 88-point whisky. From the nose to the finish without blame or blame, classic ex-bourbon cask whisky from Teeling.
    • Nose
Very fresh, fruity and floral. Fresh apricots and peaches, tangerines, passion fruit. Including a beautiful and full body with fresh wood, milk chocolate, warm toffee and caramel. Honey, vanilla pudding, some cinnamon and coriander.
    • Taste
Creamy and soft, although naturally powerful. Also on the tongue with very nice fruit aromas of apricots, peaches and mandarins, plus dry wood, milk chocolate, vanilla and honey. Basically the continuation of the nose on the tongue. Cinnamon and coriander, some pepper.
    • Finish
Medium to long, still fruity, now significantly more wood and therefore dry in the finish. Milk coffee and milk chocolate, toffee, vanilla

    Bigarreau Burlat

The Belgian importer The Nectar celebrates its 10th anniversary with a couple of nice new releases. One of those is this single bourbon cask from 2002 by the Irish label Teeling. The cask was bottled in 2016 at 51,5%. The whisky is very pale.

It is quite a fruit bomb on the nose with both white and more tropical fruit. I get melon, bigarreau burlat cherries, oranges and strawberries. The wood offers up some vanilla an cinnamon. Fresh and summery.

It is soft and sweet upon arrival, but immediately it turns quite piquant. Liquorice, cloves, cinnamon and even a chili pepper. The fruit evolves towards the candied variety. Mostly the bigarreau and oranges return, followed by a slice of dried pineapple.

It lingers on the palate in the long finish and wraps your mouth in a warm glow. At the death, it will leave your throat completely dry.

Wonderfully fruity whisky. I’m pretty sure this is a Bushmills. The bottle sells for around 80 EUR.

Really nice combo of fruits and spices.
    • Nose
      85 85
A little introvert on the arrival, but after ample aeration the fruitiness gets going: lemons and even some red berries and cherry. All layered in toffee.
    • Taste
      87 87
Coating and oily mouth feel. Big notes of caramel and vanilla. The bourbon cask influence is a lot bigger here. Ginger and pepper spices.
    • Finish
      85 85
The spices keep holding on, but the alcohol is also quite present. Even watered down the alcohol kills the finish just a little bit.
