A good filling that does not quite meet my taste. The really good and complex nose is followed by a somewhat monotonous taste and finish.

As with almost every Compass Box creation I know, the whiskey needs a lot of time in the glass to unfold. Then a wonderful aroma develops, which is first of all marked by Grain: Almond and hay meet with cereal and biscuit dough. Light saccades of sherry casks follow: light and dark grapes mingle with red apples, orange zest and fruit syrup. Finally, the whiskey is still spicy with allspice and oak.
    • Taste
      84 84
The taste is characterized by a lot of nuts (walnut and hazelnut), caramel, cappuccino and tiramisu. This not only reads like an Italian dessert menu, it tastes that way too.

With water, sweet elements get stronger (fudge, toffe, coffee chocolate).
    • Finish
      82 82
The finish is medium to long and semi-dry with oatmeal, coffee and a little vanilla. The most uninspired part of the bottling.

I liked this sort of lighter styled sherry, but this one is essentially a blend of three blends (plus a little bit of Benrinnes) so the distillery characteristics of the blend components are pretty much all gone.

  8. Monsieur Dram scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A creation that is hard to find meaning. It is an honest whiskey but offers nothing exceptional. I will only advise collectors!
    • Nose
soft and discreet on a profile apparently very influenced by the Sherry. Here is a very greedy whiskey, very pastry with notes of salted butter caramel, cake of kings (orange blossom, candied fruit), frangipane, even a touch of applesauce still hot. Add to that a hint of fruit with figs, dates and apricot. There is a note of caramel in The Circus that bothers me a little, hope it disappears in the mouth.
    • Taste
discreet and warm like a hot chocolate by the fire. It is always very baking with notes of gingerbread, candied fruit, frangipane, coffee, nougat, but a little too sweet for my taste. There are still nice notes of orange, orange blossom, date, almond, and also a more spicy pan with a dominant of cinnamon. This lack of definition all the same. We would have liked aromas a little more convincing.
    • Finish
quite short and not very intense with a dominant sweet / spicy that makes a little cringe. There are still some interesting saved flavors including fig, orange and chocolate.

The nose of this whisky is very well balanced and promises intricate flavours. Alas it doesn’t deliver that for me on the palate. Adding water to this blend flattens the taste and accents the bitter aromas of this dram.
All in all not my style of whisky.
    • Nose
A rich, rounded, well balanced and complex whisky with aromas of coumarin, vanilla, old wood, rosewood, forest honey, a hint of smoke, stale tones, sawdust, dust, old leather, blackberries, blueberries, wild flowers, hay, grass, toffee, dark caramel, cedar wood, grapefruit peels, brazil nuts, grain, dried fruit (vids, dates, plums), cinnamon, allspice, buttercups, mango, red apple, pear, coffee, bitter chocolate, old books and oak.
    • Taste
A soft, subtle, balanced but a bit flat with aromas of cedar wood, white pepper, honey, tannins, oak, hint of smoke, caramel, bourbon, maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, slightly sour tones, red apple, unripe pear, hint of leather, vanilla, hint of mocha, subtle chocolate, Angelica root and more oak.
    • Finish
A medium, valt and slightly drying finish with aromas of cedar wood, oak, tannins, maple syrup, shut tones, vanilla, caramel, hint of coffee and malt.
