  2. André scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Very surprising drink. Very sweet and rich. He already noticed me in the store, a grain that is already being released so young and for that money. It must be good.

  5. thijs100 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

This is an interesting whisky, going far beyond your average grain whisky, especially one as young as this one. This is certainly worth trying if you have the chance.
    • Nose
There's the glue again, almost unavoidable in a grain whisky. It's not an unpleasant aroma, but can sometimes be a bit too dominant. Letting a grain whisky breath for a while often takes care of this, as is the case here. In this particular Strathclyde there's also room for cherry syrup, some soy, some cigar tobacco, burlap and a burnished note. Very aromatic, even a bit floral at some point, albeit a tad prickly.
    • Taste
Very oily and mouth-coating, with roasted peanut skins, burnt orange peel and some cardamom, pepper and chili's as well. Finally some milk chocolate and praline.
    • Finish
Lingering on chocolate and soft spices.

This cask must be following me around. I know it well. Unlike stronger spirits, sherry doesnt strip as much of the oak away, meaning those refill sherry casks have more to give in the following years than say rum or ex bourbon casks. This would seem to work in the favour of Strathclyde grain which extracts a huge amount of wood info in only 10 years.

N: A molasses-sugar complex mainly on toffee/butterscotch with a sweet-honeyed cereal base and a touch of rose water. Becomes really syrupy an hour in like an undiluted fruit cordial.
    T: Sweet-sugary woody toffee complex.
F: Short but with a similar form to a single malt. A varied & changing profile over time.
C: My old faithful. Still the best 10yo grain whisky i know.Scores an A-

N: Pineapple butterscotch, a few pine needles and a healthy dose of pine=cedar freshness - all helped by the abv kick, though water is recommended.
T: A distinctive character that sticks in the memory. The profile is built around a roasted banana>pineapple maltiness.
F: Wowee, taste that cask! Despite all the forward sherry, there's a grand illusion of an earthy bourbon character also. Ten mins later and the finish is still cooking. Shoe polish at the death.
C: Alan Winchester remarked that something rather remarkable is currently happening with the Strathclyde spirit in the right casks. Not only is this in the right cask, it's available & affordable.Scores a B

  9. Abadon05 scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Wow this is supposed to be a grain? You hardly notice. Overall, very tasty and a very interesting 10 year old, which is completely underestimated. So who likes Sherry should definitely try it.
    • Nose
Extremely sweet, strawberries, dark berries and a spice. Overall, very interesting and appealing.
    • Taste
Dark sherry notes, spice and oak. And clear coffee notes
    • Finish
Dark chocolate and sweet. The coffee notes turn towards espresso.

  10. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    Enthusiasm 2/5 Whiskey n ° 1353
    • Nose
Closed early. A little spicy on alcohol. Woody brandy. Toasted, burned even, evoking incense. With water, salted cashews.
    • Taste
The aromas of the nose are found in the mouth. Unbalanced set With water, it's not better.
    • Finish
      Steep, badly trimmed.
