5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.13 points

  1. dramspotter scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Very similar to the 42 year Batch 6 and although it lacks the bitterness, the peach is more than perhaps wished for, but still very drinkable.
    • Nose
quite restrained but somewhat sweeter than the 42 yr TBWC. Not really getting peachy notes
    • Taste
      sweet somewhat peachy
    • Finish
no bitterness and finish is very pleasant and warming, just short of medium

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rich fudge and oak, orange rind and a hint of rosewater.
Palate: Toffee'd oak furniture, top notch balancing sugars and rich spices too.
Finish: Lingering oak shines proudly on a thoroughly enjoyable finish.
Overall: Exactly what you'd hope for from a grain of this age, stunning.

  3. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A dram that will appeal to fans of old grains.
    • Nose
Little "alcoholic", a very grainy nose on the flour, the bread with some notes of plums behind.
    • Taste
Always light ... it is consistent with the nose on the grain, cereals, coffee with some light spices and licorice.
    • Finish
      Short on cereals and licorice

N: Yep it's grain alright, old grain - praise be.
T: ….. bitter, woody grain at that. Better with a little water but nothing much happens.
F: a little thin, old style blend like.
C: Fair to say this ones a bit tired, but an old grain i could polish off rather effortlessly. Better [old] grains out there, yes but prices are creeping up - this one is set fair.

My expectation was to find a similar bottling like the recent WB Invergordon, or the Whiskybroker bottlings. And yes, again deep notes of well integrated wood, some sweetness, very well rounded - great stuff. Why were these 1972 Invergordons so good (after resting so many years in the casks)?
