The departure could have been a bit longer at his age. Given the otherwise very successful appearance is that but only a petitesse.
    • Nose
Freshly poured, it releases little flavors, which takes some time in the glass. But then: dark, dried and sulphured berries and a freshly lit match. Sweet tart, with the sweetness of spicy forest honey and toffee sweets. Roasted orange slices and dark chocolate, nougat cookies. Now oak-heavy sherry pushes forward.
    • Taste
Creamy, soft, velvety and for over 50% surprisingly mild and pleasing in the best sense. Leather and tobacco notes, dark chocolate, caramel. Over time, strong pepper and other spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. Caramelised orange slices with brown raw cane sugar. Woodchip oak shavings make him tart with time, without losing too much sweetness. The taste of a eucalyptus sweets passes quickly - or was it one of H. Schmidt's menthol glow stems?
    • Finish
Medium-long and creamy, with whole milk chocolate, raisin bread, spices and refreshing menthol.

He needs time in the glass. He should at least 20 min. give.
At first very reserved in the nose, but then opens. With candied orange, cream - vanilla sweets, honey, herbs and some cotton candy.
The smell of wax is present here in the form of honey.
Nice interplay between sweet and tart.
In the mouth then the opposite, here come the tart tones to light. In the form of licorice and dark chocolate. I think the alcohol is already noticeable on the tongue.
Conclusion: Beautiful Dram, who after 21 years has not accepted too much on tap.
There we are not so Clynelish: 88 points

A very good bottling - another winner like the cask 8685 which is even a bit fresher and more vivid than this one. Must be a sister cask. Anyhow this one is very drinkable and enjoyable - excellent!
    • Nose
Intense, dried fruits, raisins, dates, figs, sherry wood, hints of fresh rubber, brown sugar, toffee - great!
    • Taste
Punchy, oily, creamy, liquorice, heavy sherry wood, tons of dried fruits, good sweetness, spices, nutmeg - fantastic!
    • Finish
Long and warm, sweet and woody, more spices, zesty

A Clynelish that was unfortunately drowned in a sherry barrel.
Otherwise delicious. Like a stronger allardice with wax crayons.
    • Nose
      88 88
Beeswax block wax crayon, Maggi mixed with liquorice
    • Taste

This silky (maybe remotely beeswax) in the mouth is really great with the many dried fruits and the strong flavor (umami soy sauce)
    • Finish
      86 86
Balanced and harmonious, but not particularly noteworthy.

Has a lot of beautiful things. Unfortunately it gets a little worse at the end. I would have wished for a more distillery character. Except for the nose it can hardly be experienced. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/09/10/drei-von-einer-destille-clynelish-bonus/

  9. Thermidor scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A nice, medium sherried Clynelish, but I think there are better in this series. A good bottle, anyway. No off-notes or problems with the sherry cask.
    • Nose
A used leather jacket was washed in cider vinegar. Something leafy as well, and then candlewax and sherry, and a bit of white pepper. Wit water it's sweeter, with liquorice and oak, and a faint smoke. It felt best neat
    • Taste
Much sweeter and sherried than the nose made me expect, and more in line with the color of the stuff. Paraffin and dried wine in a glass. Surprisingly smooth and ready on the tongue neat. Water seems to dull and simplify it, making it go toward peat and liquorice and lose most detail.
    • Finish
Long, malty, with liquorice and teeth-coating paraffin. Water makes it drying and simpler.

Blind tasting: Hm-h. I'll finish here, looking forward to the second half of the sample. ~ 89P with potential up. I suspect 25+ years sherry keg, PX I like, ~ 43%, distillery - no idea.
-> If I could / should have known blindly. Of these ~ 20yo sherry clynelishes from Signatory I already had 4? in the jar, and they all had that glue + spice note. And they were all delicious.
    • Nose
Away soon again a glue note - in a pleasant way - no owl, Prittstift, do not know - I like. Definitely not a bourbon barrel. Over polished oak wood, old oily bicycle chain, the nose develops over 5 minutes towards dates, dill, musty old cellar. Reminds me of WID: 65095 Glen Garioch 1993 BR.
    • Taste
Astonishingly powerless, with little sips is nothing here, even in larger fluid (I do not want to say watery, taste is there), dates, dry apricots, cinnamon, aniseed, ginger
    • Finish
Fruity and at the same time always dry, long, dill, dates, marzipan, rum grape nut, ginger, menthol
