Smell: sea, wet strip, turmeric, cherries, old slippers, ripe mango, pulpwood
Taste: bitter, super colostrum, the first taste was terrible, then a little better, cherries, pepper
    Finish: warming, slightly bitter
    Grade: 4

  2. wncvirus scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Nose: light peat, light sherry, light wine notes
Taste: The taste is slightly peaty sherry with acidic aromas that go into wine notes.
Rating: 87 | 100 -This whisky has a medium-long finish with a wine / dry flavor. I think this whisky is worth a try!

    • Taste
A drop of spicy, sesame oil, tofu, cheese, butter, vanilla, nuts, almonds, smoked, slightly sour, red berries, cherries, peat, barbecue sauce, fruit sugar, a salt, light smoke.
    • Finish

  5. djmaxliving scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

Nose - Dark fruits, red currants, thick sweetness, plums, dark bitter chocolate and peat smoke.

Mouth - Raspberries, thick sweet desert, spice, strong dark coffee, loads of sweetness, sugar, slight wood & mouth coating.

Finish - Dark chocolate, dark coffee, smoky and bitter.

Thoughts - Full body whisky, such a sweet whisky, if you like sweet sherry whisky. The distillery character is still in the background, but the cask influence is without doubt in charge. Goes very cloudy with water, always a good sign.

Not an easy Springbank which i personally appreciate.

It need fair amount of time to open. The water helps thinks to unlock. Full bodied, dynamic dram

Really delicious classic Springbank expression, with depth and warmth.
    • Nose
Salted sticky toffee pudding smoked over peat.
    • Taste
Sherry, spice, powdered biltong, smoked salmon and a smooth as butter sweetness.
    • Finish
Lingering, but lightweight: sweet smoke and a whiff of salt air.

  11. p4blo scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

A very nice whisky, it would be really excellent with fewer sulphury notes, but I find it great anyway.
    • Nose
Heavy notes of sulphur, underneath there is some grilled bacon, beef, rich dark fruits and the signature Springbank smoke. Some coastal notes with smoked salmon. Complex and nice, if only there was less/no sulphur.
    • Taste
Vanilla pudding at first, very creamy, then the smoke kicks in and builds up. Berries, salty caramel, burnt sugar, smoked meat and some spices.
    • Finish
Sweet on red berries, a pinch of salt and long smoke aftertaste. Ash.

Blind tasting as part of the elf tour XX
    "Schoenus Nigricans" by Floppo.

Exciting drop! For me, the summer freshness on the palate is unfortunately covered by a strong bitterness. But the nose is great.
It could be a ballechin or longrow from a white wine barrel.
    • Nose
      87 87
The first thing I get in my nose is a slightly sour wine note, but no smoke. Gooseberries, peach, honey and apple ... very nice!
    • Taste
      84 84
On the palate, a little smoke comes through in addition to the slightly sparkling wine note. Again gooseberries and a feeling of tart peach punch… very refreshing and suitable for today's summer day.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long and tart and a tingle on the palate.

very good sherried Springbank where distillery character prevails on finish
    • Nose
soft nose with soft sherry character
    • Taste
lightly sherried, brown sugar and quite peaty
    • Finish
wish it was longer but its quite deep and satisfying

  14. Tabrulavubeg scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Sadly, obvious sulphury notes spoil what would otherwise be a great sherried Springbank. It's all there - juicy sherry sweetness, spices from the oak and the Springbank distillery profile. Water helps to reduce the sulfur, yet this is a shame.
88 points nonetheless, which shows how great this could have been without the sulfur.

  16. KayMeertens scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
First sulphur, a bit egg-like, but that soon diminishes. Marshmallow, peach candy, candied cherry, mango and salami. When adding water some pencil shavings.
    • Taste
Cherry, toffee, peat, sulphur, pepper and mango.
    • Finish
      Baked, slightly burnt, brown bread.

  17. thebeastbolton scored this whisky 90 points Newbie

For me a nose of ripe banana, butter, dates, nuts and spice with last nights wood fire in the background. The palate is a huge sherry punch in the mouth followed by salt, seaside, charcoal and more nuts. A spiced finish with more coal and liquorice . Finish is maybe a little short but has you reaching back for more.

    • Taste
      85 85
    • Finish
      91 91

  18. detachedblue scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Very tasty and balanced malt. Although it was matured in first fill sherry butt, it is really strange that the sherry influence isn't dominant.
    • Nose
      TOO MUCH SULPHUR!!!

sweet sherry, characteristic smoke, fresh apple, honey, oily walnut
    • Taste
SULPHUR!!! very sweet, sea salt, nutty, spicies and smoke, very balanced, blood oranges. remind you about classic and well matured sherry whiskies.
    • Finish
waxes, slight bitterness, long and dry.
