Extremely fruity and sweet sherry bomb. Looks old as he is. Soft, alk well integrated. Apple and strong candied pear. Caramel and rock candy. Something fresh, light mint? Some grass and fresh flowers. Delicious!

Extremely soft, round, creamy but with great aromas and strength. Wow! Perfect age. Also very sweet with tropical fruits and vanilla sugar. Some of 'fizzers' candies. Light fruit acid. Also caramelized pear. Perfect.

A touch of spice and still sweet and fruity. Then some menthol stays in the throat for a long time and it gets slightly oily too. Now a nice balance between tart and sweet.

Rather short notes because I just have to enjoy the rest of the sample, the painting is a dream!

This is a malt right from the heart of Glengoyne's style, with a delicate balance between a gentle distillate and a cask that doesn't dominate. It's very much to my liking and deserves no less than a score that starts with 9.

Tasted with Ben Nevis cask 1368 (91 pts.), Glen Elgin 23yo 1995 Cadenhead 50,6% (88), Collectivum XXVIII blend (88), and Caol Ila 25yo 1979-2005 (90).

Thank you for the sample, GIORGOS!
    • Nose
At first it's quite light, a bit tight, and a little grassy, but after five to ten minutes I get quality chocolate and dry malts. With water: Oh, now it's a proper whisky! I get that old style fatty yeastiness, some fruit both from the cask and the distillate, and some cookie dough.
    • Taste
Neat: Soft, velvety on the tongue. Elegant but slightly diminutive, with sherry, cream taffy, and sugariness. Water makes it perfect. Rounder, and full despite being a light distillate (always an achievement). An oiliness that sinks slowly into the lips, a soft fruitiness, and at the end some dryness.
    • Finish
Neat it is abrupt, but with a small amount of water it's sweet and lingering. Good stuff, but in the finish the 25yo OBs do take the cake with their richer sherry influence.

Glengoyne at an age like this is almost always a fantastic whisky and this was no exception, I also found it very easy to drink, even at cask strength. Amazing stuff.

    • Nose
Quite alcoholic, but not unpleasant. Apricots. Light grass. Quite floral, mainly reminiscent of rosewater. Very delicate vanilla. Strawberry shortcake. Germolene. Raspberry sherbet powder. Wood oils, cedar and pine. Copper. Quite a few of those light green herbal notes that can show up in well matured whiskies, spearmint, cilantro, parsley. These green herbal notes get a bit bolder with more time in the glass.
    • Taste
For a high ABV this is very drinkable as is. Quite waxy. Citrus peels. Rich wood. Cilantro. Seville oranges. Cedarwood. Pine cones. Red fruits. Woodspice, mainly nutmeg.
    • Finish
Long. Rich wood. Lemon curd. Seville oranges. Creme brulee. Lingering notes of green herbs and woodspice.
