What a complex and characterful malt. This Macallan impressively shows the character and variety of flavors a Macallan bottling from the 80's can have. The sherry aromas look surprisingly dirty, dried berries, spicy oak and a hint of sulfur contribute safely with their slightly musty and musty nature. With "only" 43% alcohol, the Mac's taste is a bit thin and weak on the chest, while the intense fruit and leather aromas make the relatively low alcohol content quickly forgotten. Old and solid, varied and complex, intense and yet mild ... A great bottling from the 80's and also a real old school whisky. I like it very much!

    • Nose
Wonderfully intense amber with a silky red shimmer shines in the Premium Snifter. On the glass wall sticks a syrupy streak from the oily drops dissolve and slowly flow back into the glass. Old dried grapes and berries are immediately noticeable, roasted aromas and hazelnuts show up, and gradually dark sherry aroma comes into its own. Sun-kissed dates and raisins give off their lush bouquet, old oranges and ripe sour cherries mix with creamy milk chocolate. The nose is a bit "dirty" over time, I imagine a minimal sulfur perceive. Hints of old leather and dried tobacco leaves follow, a touch of furniture polish pulls through the nose while minimal grapefruit aroma exudes its sour scent. The furniture polish is intensified before sweet and creamy caramel dissolves and in combination with toffee and forest honey creates sweet elements. Spicy oak and dried berries play together, creamy milk chocolate melts in the sun, raisins inlaid in rum light up. Slowly the nose becomes dirtier and wooden again; Leather, spicy oak, tobacco and dried fruits end in furniture polish and a musty touch of sulfur. My salivation is getting more and more excited, I want to finally try the Mac!
    • Taste
Mild, the first sip flows over the tongue. Spicy oak and dried berries leave a hint of furniture polish and moldy sulfur on the tongue, on the palate stick dark oranges and dates. Instantly, the salivation is intensified, subtle sharpness in the form of black pepper and tart wood tones clothe the palate, a subtle musty and meringue aroma runs through the throat. Grapefruit and dark caramel show up, a touch of fresh mint drifts through the mouth, freshly brewed espresso and milk chocolate combine with leather and tobacco to create a wonderfully contrasting, creamy, tart melange. Dried grapes and berries come into their own, sour cherries and zests of old oranges leave a tart fruit on the palate. The second sip flows bitter and bitter through the mouth. Again, musty and musty elements, spicy and old wood tones are flooded with dirty sherry aromas, raisins and dates float in the saliva, a pinch of crushed pepper is again distributed throughout the mouth. Sour grapefruit and intense mint create a refreshing counterpart to the dark and spicy wood flavors in combination with old leather, espresso and a few crumbs of harsh tobacco.
    • Finish
At the moment the tart and spicy aromas dominate the reverberation. Again and again, fresh mint and citrus aromas, espresso and a touch of furniture polish provide dark and dark elements. Dark caramel and toffee are also in the finish, the dried berries and orange slices sparkle in the reverberation often, currently pulls an unusual blend of espresso, dark caramel, fresh mint and a vegetable note through the throat. The different and intense aromas stick a perceived eternity on the palate, the chubby heat slowly dissipates, while the tart and spicy aromas remain in memory for a long time. Mint, leather, espresso, spicy oak, discreet musty sulfur, caramel, cherries never seem to want to end. Furniture polish and leather stick between tongue and palate, the mouthfeel becomes oily and creamier. Again I have the feeling to perceive a subtle vegetable note ....
