Compared to Glen Elgin 2006 85.40. Full bourbon power!
    • Nose
Fresh, citrus, malty - cereals, grassy, popcorn, gin with herbs and fruity - apple and pear.
    • Taste
Young but very tasty with citrus - grape fruits and sweets. A trace of ashes and nougat.
    • Finish
Medium drying, citrus - lemon, vanilla and fruity  - bourbon fruits.

Tasted at day 7 of the Usquebaugh Society BTC 2016 although this was the whisky for day 8. My guess was Clynelish 16yo @ 60%. It was more like the Imperial 19yo vW I had today, though :)

    • Nose
Vanilla pudding, banana, raspberry, coconut and pear. A light resin note like virgin oak. Water adds apple lemonade.
    • Taste
Banana, pear, raspberry, pineapple, coconut and vanilla. Water releases a saltiness like taco shells.
    • Finish
Vanilla pudding, banana, pineapple, coconut and raspberry.

Yeah, I'm really pleased with this youngster. It has a really nice profile. Not big overwhelming vanilla flavours from the fresh bourbon barrel, but it has developed a character of its own. I'm gonna have fun with this bottle!
    • Nose
The first word that comes to mind when I smell this whisky is 'Fresh'. A really fresh nose. Very pleasant. Freshly cut grass with a lot of mint. Some citrus as well (mojito!). The alcohol is quite high, so big sniffs will not go unpunished, but besides that it is a very friendly nose. Very rich, in a young, fresh way. I'm am glad to find no big spirit smells are to be found in this rather young whisky.
    • Taste
The taste on the other hand is sharp. Hot even. Very spicy, not that friendly anymore. All the flavours from the nose are present, but not as balanced as it is in the nose. Still a nice whisky nonetheless, but more what you would expect from a 9 year old at +60%. Water helps to balance it all, and brings a winegummy fruitiness on the table.
    • Finish
Citrus. Quite one dimensional. Not that long.

    SMWS Tasting Notes

    Colour: Buttery gold

Flavour Profile: Juicy, oak & vanilla

We found the nose surprisingly complex for the age – we got
floral notes, fruity notes (mango, pineapple, wrinkled apples), currants, crème
brûlée and a cabinet maker’s workshop. The palate was mouth-filling and yummy,
with good viscosity (fruit syrup poured over crêpes), sweet  Muscat, juicy sultanas and orange fondants,
with nice balancing chili heat and a dry finish. The nose, with water,
delivered lychees in syrup, dried pineapple, coconut, incense candles and aromatic
wood. The reduced palate had orange zest and wine gum fruitiness and light
mouth tingles from the wood – a dram of decent complexity, individual character
    and very drinkable indeed.

Drinking Tip: Relaxing with a good book
