What a whiskey! The nose is incredibly multi-layered and fruity, the alcohol harmoniously integrated. An incredible creaminess and a flavor of greasy butter runs through the entire tasting. Sweet fruit and spicy wood tones complete this great taste experience. A great and old Invergordon! 1972 is just a great vintage ;-)
    • Nose
Bright amber shines out of the glass, sweet vanilla rises leisurely from the glass, sticky streaks run slowly back into the glass after swinging. Fruity oranges and apples mingle with a sweet glue note, sugar and caramel beguile the nose. While the tough streaks stick to the glass wall, the sweet and fruity nose takes me to the land of plenty. Butter biscuits, popcorn, fruit salad, sweet vanilla and caramel, I can not satirise on this nose! Wonderful!
    • Taste
Creamy and sweet, the first sip starts. Spicy wood elements and intense fruit notes are slowly becoming spicy. White pepper makes the mouth tingle, it bizzles and pearls dance on the tongue. The sharpness fades away slowly, spicy and creamy wood notes come to light. Creamy shortbread crumbles on the tongue, tart orange peel mix with cereal notes. The alcohol is now slightly sprittig and again shows a slight adhesive note. Creamy and slightly buttery, the taste goes into the finish.
    • Finish
Slowly, the creaminess of the taste disappears, slight sharpness is on the tongue. The sprightly glue note left traces on the palate, the spicy wood notes return. A touch of grapefruit mixed with a pinch of pepper, the sharpness flames up again. With an interesting mixture of pepper, cream, butter and fine spicy wood, the finish gradually fades away.

Perfect harmony! All aroma’s are so incredibly well integrated. Splendid!!
    • Nose
It needs a little water to open up. It is very closed initialy. Soft, sweet, gentle and rich. Bourbon orientated aroma’s. Macaroons, vanillasticks, honey, crème bruleé. Subtle hints of citrus fruits.
    • Taste
Oeh that is refined, complete, rich and very, very well balanced! This is what I would call; whisky being in perfect harmony! Beautiful layers. This is a real treat! Honey, vanilla, macaroons, whipped Cream.
    • Finish
Medium length. Macaroons, vanilla, ice Cream and breakfast cereals. At the very end again that hint of citrus fruits.

      Fantastic stuff!

"Unfortunately" only a sample, as this is simply a great grain whisky. It is not a need for me to drink grain whisky every week; occasionally is good enough. But if I do pour myself a grain it must be damn good. like this one.

Initially a bit closed indeed; drops of water and enough time in the glass open up this whisky. If you have the patience, then you are awarded with a beautiful sweet, fresh nose. Vanilla and crème bruleé (hint by my wife - who is not into whisky).
    • Taste

Waxy and thick mouthfeel. Gentle, subtle and complex. Vanilla taste combined with fruity flavors and subtle spices. But everything in perfect harmony.
    • Finish

Medium long. Spicy flavors dominate the finish. In the far end the cream and thickness turn into a somewhat watery finish.

Drinking this one for the second time, thanks to a generous sample from MacErik. And damnit, this is by far the best grain I’ve ever tasted. I’m short on Superlatives for this one. If you can find a bottle, BUY IT without blinking your eyes.

The nose is sweet with glue, vanilla, orange, buttery toffee, straw and wood, some grassy notes, sawdust. After a while more sweet vanilla notes, cake, orange lemonade, shortbread. The taste is a kind of bourbon / rye-like, sweet with a dusty note, woody, coconut, orange, slightly drying, small bitter note and pepper. The finish reminds me of rum, of those English style rums, vanilla, some spiciness, nutmeg, woody notes, as if you are using a crosscut saw.
