Nice game of peppery spice, intense smoke and a subtle fruity sweetness - beautifully matched. Somewhat more complex than the Talisker Storm, but might be even more here. Overall, a good malt.

powerful maritime note; spicy; clear smoky note; tart-sweet; some leather; overall a bit softer and less peppery than the Talisker Storm
    • Taste
      85 85
clearly smoky (more direction ash); with peppery-spicy (chili-catch); with fruity sweetness; nice interplay in the mouth
    • Finish

peppery-spicy, clearly smoky; some coffee and oak

A delicious Talisker, the finish is disappointing, but the nose and taste are better than the usual Talisker NAS. A malt to enjoy without much philosophizing.

An intensely smoky whisky, which shows strong wood aromas and fruit at the beginning; those disappear, however, after some time, the whisky becomes quite watery. One can guess some sherry barrels involved. In my opinion, the character is more like a Lagavulin 16 than a Talisker, although the character is not quite as intense.
    • Nose

Pure: Intense smoke (cold ash), dark fruit (plum), slightly medicinal (gauze bandages), herbs, white pepper, some alcohol, which disappears gradually; sweet and fleshy aromas.
Good aeration helps the aromas to become clearer.

With water: the whisky weakens even with little water, the aromas simply become thinner.
    • Taste
      83 83
Oakbarrel, cold ash, dark fruit and herbs (rosemary, thyme); mouthcoating dryness. Warming. Really intense at first, then somehow it loses it in the development
    • Finish
      84 84
Relatively long-lasting; becomes sweeter over time, woody, the ash remains.

To answer your question directly, yes the Talisker 10 is better. The Dark Storm is a tasty whisky though, the development is just lacking. It does its thing but although being a travel retail exclusive, doesn't take you on a journey.
    • Nose
Ground pepper and smoky bacon fill the nose, accompanied by light lemony notes. Malt, sour apple, floral, slight sherry, peat smoke, chili pepper. It also reminds me of Zubrowka, a Polish vodka flavoured with a strand of bison grass (Prefer that to any plain vodka on a side note). Straightforward nose, nothing too complex.
    • Taste
Thin mouthfeel although a big oak and pepper explosion. Black pepper, salt, red chili's, alcohol heat, peat, campfire smoke, slight iodine. Classic coastal flavours but it gets a little harsh and doesn't develop much. Could use some water/oxidization.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Hot, smoky and ashy finish. I can still taste this a few minutes later. After taking a deep breath a note of dark chocolate pops up, that surprised me positively.

    Nose:
Smoke, Honey, black Pepper, Grapes, Caramel, Chocolate, Salt, spices

    Taste:
Honey, Caramel, Ash, Tobacco, Chocolate, Licorice,Ginger.
Much less Black Pepper than other Talisker Malts.

    Finish:
long and surprisingly smooth for a Talisker

    Overall:
A worthy addition to the Talisker Range.
Noticeably sweeter and less smokey than the rest of Talisker's Range.
People who couldn't get into Talisker because of it's spiciness and smokiness might want to try this Version.
    Price Point is absolutely o.k.

Against the background, the port of Ri was completely lost, young and prickly, but Tali's trademark notes could be found.
    • Nose
Apple clarified juice, ash, dust, smoke, slightly burned sugar
    • Taste
Young, prickly, fairly dense, pepper and sweet spices
    • Finish
Simple, short, apple bones, ash, soot.

https://www.malts.com/en-ca/our-whisky-collection/talisker/talisker-dark-storm/ Possibly and a little less characteristic of Talisker, which is, of course, a nice surprise in the NAS edition of this distillery. Good for me and the price is not as hot as one would expect.
