Nose: (82) Very strong and a bit cardboardy, then luxardo cherries, raspberry coulis, burnt raisin, mint jelly, prickly, pepper. Even with a lot of water it never really opens up. Stays primarily on pepper, musty notes with fruit
Palate: (84) Dark rich fruits, leading with cherry, raspberry, raisin, and perhaps even a blueberry. Dark chocolate, cocoa, pipe tobacco, chilis. With water gets creamier, lightly waxy as well. I like it.
Finish: (84) Chilies, pepper, cherries and cherry cola, raspberry, cocoa, leather, tobacco, cinnamon hearts, Long and drying with hints of fruit and leather.
Notes: Picked this whisky up in 2019 for $140 cdn. Bottled 20 years ago! The dusty romance doesn’t quite overcome its middling quality. Good clean sherry, but it’s very hot. It takes water well, although the nose never opens up. Still a neat curiosity, glad I picked one up.
Edit: Nearing the end of this one, I feel I was a little generous. I think there’s a decent malt in there, but it’s a little too hot and cardboardy.
