    NO water needed

Conclusion: Boah, old blends are simply awesome, but here it takes time in the glass to develop. At first I felt reminded to Tobermory, the basic character has a lot of the 10y and 15yo. But after a while in the glass it almost becomes a sherry board, the finish may be a bit too dry and woody. Grain? You can find it here only in the nose and slightly in the finish - 86 points
    • Nose
some strange, roasted Gertreidenoten, dark Toffeesüße and some fruit notes, especially apricot and juicy pear, earthy / slightly dirty but no peat notes, grainy notes are barely noticeable, even if sometimes flash a few adhesive flavors, even a few nut flavors come after a while It slowly becomes a sherry tuna bouquet (plum, rum raisins, some tobacco and chocolate), it also gets sweeter, and the whiskey does a little more time. Due to the rather thin 43%, he lacks a bit of strength
    • Taste
Here he has for 43% a proper start, and the mouthfeel is right, here dominate the first Sherrynoten, until then the oak with spice and spices to grab, beautiful cinnamon and clove flavors
    • Finish
Short to medium long, dark fruits and a strong hint of chocolate, in addition to a surprising amount of cloves, the oak is a bit bitter bitter back, accompanied by licorice and cedar wood / cigar box, a little sage is there (!) -

Basically, I already anticipated it. Grendel's is not for aromas of junkies and extreme aromatics. As a drinking whiskey for convivial evenings but also suitable as for evenings, where you simply want to take it a little quieter. Good nose, nice finish - actually still on the palate rather weakest, albeit on a decent level. The typical Grain notes I could find in any way, which is why I also go out here from a Vattet malt without Grain share.
All in all, a malt that makes me quite happy, which is why I bought a bottle again before the last of the market disappears.
    • Nose
Immediately after opening the bottle, the first nose was sobering. Some chemical notes were added, which slightly clouded the first impression. These notes are now completely gone as the bottle is open for a few days.
Now there are creamy vanilla, subtle fruit notes and of course some oak in the background. Not surprisingly, the alcohol is very restrained, the interplay of the slightly floral fruit notes and the strong oak dominate the overall picture. With increasing time then noticeably more seasoning in the glass.
Overall, a pleasant picture, which makes you want more.
    • Taste
The malt - also unsurprisingly - very mild, only after a few moments he spreads noticeably in the mouth and unfolds. One thing - so much is not there. Ultra complex is not the Gendel `s, but he was probably not made for it. But he is - even if I do not really like to use - extremely "tasty". He is really good about the tongue and you are about to take the next sip.
A few light fruit notes are there, but somewhat watered compared to the nose. The tannins are very restrained, instead sweetish oak with a few tiny splashes of fruit juice.
If you like strong and massive aromas, you should be able to say goodbye here. As a whiskey, but with which you do not want to spend hours, but simply should be drunk, but quite well - and I suspect that this comes very close to the intention at that time. The hype about fancy ripening, cask strength and eternal nosing finally came up much later.
    • Finish
Measured by the alcohol content surprisingly long finish. Not strong, but quite voluminous. The sweet fruit notes can also set a few accents here before the spicy oak takes over. The remains quite a long time in the neck, without bitterness or annoying Fehlnoten. In any case, surprisingly long-winded, measured by the taste. Is there a smoky note with it? I think so, if very discreet.
