Whisky Reviews for Talisker 10-year-old

I remember even earlier batches with this livery to be even more maritime and smoky, more austere, while still keeping that West Highland character but without the coconut and vinous/grape-y notes, therefore replaced by some sort of noble european oak sherry note(s). I think there's still room for improvement, but my memory could deceive me as well, so don't quote me on that.
Anyhow, this is a gentle maritime/smoky bruiser!

Note belongs to a bottle with bottle code L8165...

Oh Talisker, where hav' ye gone?!!
    • Nose
sea breeze, iodine, peat, some dark malt, heather honey, some vinous and grape-y notes (some sherry??!), a little oak sap, a little dry unsweetened cocoa powder, later some lemon zests emerge, overall phenolic, malty and maritime, quite big but rounded.
    • Taste
malty attack, a little vinous, a little coconut, then malt, iodine and brine, peat, some (burnt) heather, some white table grapes, huge body, oily & fat, rounded with a striking balance while still maintaining an edge to it.
Some freshly crushed black pepper intermingled with a little lemon at the tail end makes way for the finish with a 'zing'!
    • Finish
peat smoke, sea breeze, iodine, oak, a little sherry (vinous), malt, medium to long.
