    Top dram, do not
doubt it! You must try this. It is one of the best Strathisla I have ever had
    the fortune of tasting.
    • Nose
      Ooh, fruit bomb on
the nose! Wonderful figs, apricots, oranges, quince, overripe Pink Lady apples
and rum raisins. Be sure to add pomegranate and dades to that. The whole is
drenched in a wonderful dark honey. Beeswax. Creamy stuff, almost syrupy. After
a few moments some nuts and chocolate appear, albeit in the background. Pine
cones and a twig of mint! Man, what a nose!
    • Taste
      On the palate, it
remains wonderfully fruity, but the oak becomes quite loud and a tad bitter. Liquorice
and Seville oranges. Some fruit tea. Nice balance, since the fruit remains
juicy enough to keep it delicious. Mostly the raisins and apricots shine
through. The spices are cinnamon and cloves. The mint from the nose returns on
the palate as well. Very nice!
    • Finish
      Surprisingly long finish
on oak and mildly bitter oranges.

N: Sweet, hollow fungal and charred honey vibes.
T: How does this remain so punchy at 43% [going on 48%], and after all those years? Travels along sweet oaky fungal lines with mild kiwi & watercress undertones.
F: A buttery waxy ashy thing, proportions-of changing from sip to sip. Acute astringent chalky sweet ashy finish.
C: More ‘obvious’ compared to the MacPhail’s [coming up]. Opulent, tasty, just so.

    • Nose
Green pepper, meaty and salty sherry, wood spices, burned plastic, very dirty, smoke of gunpowder, burning almonds.
    • Taste
Funky and dirty, camphor, tannins, a touch of tropical fruits, very watery, slightly bitter.
    • Finish
      Short, dark chocolates, dried apricots.

Q: dark gold Sherrynase, spicy: gingerbread ?, Maggie's cabbage ?, a bit musty G: Sherry, despite the 43% alcoholic spicy, more pronounced wood influence A: long finish, some perfume + H2O: gets rounder, but too much wood comes out

Strathisla 50y 1957/2007, 43%, Gordon & MacPhail can go through life as 'decent'. I still noted a great deal about it, as the night progressed, the less the case. The nose shows nice, soft sherry. Soft in the sense of being behind, with lots of fruit (orange, dates, figs, prunes), blackberry jam, but also beeswax, mint, wood and a little smoke. The taste is thick, buttery and syrupy. I had spices, wood, stewed fruit, raisins, caramel, chewing tobacco, everything nicely balanced. Subtle and yet powerful. Long, fruity and slightly drying finish. Smooth Strathisla, and again proof of the strength of Strathisla, often very good in old age. 88/100 http://onversneden.com/2010/01/20/bezoekje-aan-bb/
