[January, 2018]  A lot of old Glencadam are "love-it-or-hate-it" affairs as these drams usually offer bold and sometimes strange flavours.  I like to try samples but I am cautious to buy bottles...

The colour is auburn and the texture shows fat tears with very slow moving legs.  The nose is quite bold on sherry, plastic and some rubbery aromas with fruits and floral notes lurking in the background.  A strange but interesting nose and I am not sure if I like it or not.  An experience, at least.  It arrives bitter and quite adstringent in the mouth (heavy tannins) with no coating effect at all.  I am sure that I do not like this dimension!  The taste itself is more fruity and sherry driven (what is nice) but still there are a lot of bitter wooden flavours and adstringent feelings.  The finish of medium length, drying (tannins) and adstringent again.  No sulphur that I can find, at least!  Water takes away some of the adstringent feelings but it flattens the dram, too.  Not sure what I like better...This is a way too bitter and adstringent dram for my taste buds that is interesting to nose but rather unpleasant to drink.  Thank god, it was a sample only...

Didn't quite convince me. Too artificial, sulphury in a way, and very bitter from the oak.
    • Nose
Quite artificial. Sherry, burnt plastic, inner bicycle tube, raisin pancake that was baked too long, red fruit, and grass.
    • Taste
quite compact on fresh red fruit, with medium sherry influence, but on the mid palate a burst of oaky bitterness.
    • Finish
Quite long and oaky, with a lot of bitterness of pepper, ginger and plain wood. There is a hint of fruit and mint.

The rate is lifted mostly for the excellent nose, the taste does not deliver to the high expectations.
    • Nose
Rich, elegant, dignified sherry - old books, leather armchair, wet tobacco, stewed dark fruits and caramelised brown sugar with a subtle influence of cloves and cinnamon. Very warm and inviting.
    • Taste
The palate is quite disappointing compared to the excellent nose. Crispy bread, cherries, milk chocolate, burnt milk. Quite spicy on pepper, but all in all it's rather flat due to the dilution.
    • Finish
Quite long, but spicy and bitterish.

initially i would have given this 83-84. but it really improved over time. especially on the nose.
    • Nose
typical sherry at first, raisins chocolate, and lots of burnt stuff. but this also has a minty freshness to it. underneath the sherry its kinda grassy/green. also some nail polish and hints of earth and dried plums.
    • Taste
fudgy and slightly grassy. still quite green, reminds me of unripe corncobs and the leaves that are wrapped around them.(if they would taste like they smell).then some caramel followed by bitterness.
    • Finish
short to medium all on cherry stuff. sirup, marmalade, compote, pick one.

The initial bitterness went after a while. MOTR
    • Nose
Sherry, red wine, something savoury like a meat pie (great :) ).

Very rich fruit cake and ripe plums.
    • Taste
Smooth but a little bitter on coffee and chocolate. There are notes of caramel and then prune juice mixed in with dark syrup
    • Finish
Medium on salted caramel and sweet syrup
