Nice one if you skip the nosing or if you like the curious style. Great taste. Not many standard bottlings on this level nowadays. Strong devaluation due to off-notes on the nose.

Very strange nose, something really herbal, laurel, lovage, tarragon, one of my whisky buddies even detects artichokes - crazy, isn't it? A lot of fruity flavours, dried fruits like raisins, hints of liqourice. Rotten wood, mushrooms, off-notes if you ask me. To be honest, all the mentioned nosing flavours are neither matching to each other nor very well balanced. Clearly not what I would have expected from a Glenrothes. Nor what I like in that combination.

Thank god the strong herbal character went away and a lot of sherry flavours are evolving quickly. Rather modern style, fruity and a bit woody, without any leather or 'dusty' elements from the good old times.
    • Finish
      81 81
The finish is starting woody and slightly - but not too - bitter, after that the dram is fading away on the fruity elements. Rather trivial but nice.

This was a good starter for our line-up. Nothing to complicated or powerful but rather a nice, easy and pleasant start of the session. The sherry flavours in this dram are quite restrained and result mostly in sweetness and fruitiness. It’s not exceptionally good but not bad either.
All in all an uncomplicated Glenrothes.
    • Nose
A soft, subtle and sweet whisky with aromas of red apples, pepper, floral tones (buttercups, dandelions), hay, grass, pear, orange, tangerine peels, lemon, cinnamon, ginger, honey, grains, caramel, malt, vanilla, subtle toffee, stale tones, figs, cherries, furniture polish (Pledge) and subtle oak.
    • Taste
A spicy yet mild and sweet whisky with aromas of white pepper, tannins, red apples, pear, honey, vanilla, licorice root, aniseeds, grass, hint of caramel, subtle toffee, chamomile tea, hint of apricots, citrus (tangerines, orange and subtle grapefruit) and creamy oak.
    • Finish
A short to medium and slightly drying finish with aromas of tannins, tea, honey, caramel, red apple and dry oak.

A nice dram, had it blind (Thanks to Mathias Nilsson for the sample) with a couple of friends and we really enjoyed it. It´s well matured and have some character but I've had better Glenrothes from independent bottlers and I still goes for independent when looking for a cracker Glenrothes.

    (Rating interval 83-86)
    • Nose
Sweet malt and soft smoke on the nose, salt licorice, mixed pepper, cinnamon, nuts, almonds in particular and some bitter orange. Hints of red apples are coming through with water.
    • Taste
Malty and fruity arrival with apples, a bit unripe apples. Becomes sweeter on the development and dry back on the tongue, slightly mineral as well. Becomes lighter and more crisp with water.
    • Finish
Smoke, raisin and some salt on the finish. Bitter orange and soft oak with water.
