  1. Archer scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

This is a wonderful whisky. An eternally long smoky nose. This great combination of strong peat smoke on the one hand and fruit notes on the other hand on the tongue. The alcohol perfectly integrated. Great.
    • Nose
In the nose, the typical Laphroaig notes are immediately apparent: phenolic smoke, peat, seaweed, sea salt. These notes are preserved for a long time, it takes a while until the nose has processed the smoke flavor and ignored it. Then, all at once, sweet bananas and pineapple appear, slightly smoked. Above all lies the fine smoke of a dying campfire.
    • Taste
The start is voluminous. Frame mouth. Sweet peat rolls over the tongue. Cold ash, sea salt, algae - a cold campfire on the beach? Dried and smoked orange peel mixes nicely with the taste of cold ash. Pickled peaches, which once again hung briefly in a chimney.
    • Finish
The finish is long, fruity and ashy, but hardly dry.

A wonderful and unusual Laphroaig. The sweetness and the peat harmonize perfectly. This Cairdeas goes in my opinion already in the direction of Octomore. After the 2013er the best Cairdeas for me!
    • Nose
This color is really unusual for a Laphroaig. Orange-colored with a reddish nuance, the Laphi shimmers in the glass. Slowly and oily, the drops return to the glass after being panned. The typical phenolic Laphroaig peat immediately beguiles the nose. Overripe fruits, oranges and a light banana aroma mix with the pleasant peat. Sweetness plays with a fine hint of smoke, mineral notes alternate with a pinch of salt. The 51.6% alcohol is integrated harmoniously.
    • Taste
Immediately sweet and fruity peat dominates at the first sip. After a brief moment of unusual Laphroaig enjoyment, a combination of earthy peat, extreme woody notes and spicy alcohol suddenly hits you. A fire of peat, salt, fruit and sharpness burns long, but very pleasant, in my mouth. A little water added makes the Cairdeas appear more harmonious. Sweet fruits are now pushing through the fiery peat, again a hint of mandarin oranges.
    • Finish
The voluminous and sweet peat dominates the finish. A salty pinch mixes with the peat and makes it appear a little sharper. A fine column of smoke rises from the finish. Long and warm, the finish exudes a wonderful peaty mouthfeel.

Oxidation has helped to balance this one out after being opened 6 months ago (it was very disjointed upon first opening the bottle). Not much on the noise; sweet smoke (no brine in this one), and honey. Palate; Light smoke with apricot and creamy apple sauce. A little vanilla finish on the end.

For a 51.6 % Vol. no alcohol in the noise or palate. A very nice dram; light fruity smoke dram for the summer.

Opened a second bottle August 2019 and unfortunately it's not as good as I remembered. I find most of the tasting notes the same but with more bitterness on the palate and finish. The nose is very good but that bitter- astringent taste it very off-putting. A drop in score from a 87 to a 83.

    a successful Laphroaig
    a nice continuous line
from the color to the finish
    from name to taste
    kept what he promised

    89 out of 100 points
    I touched the sky
    • Nose
      immediately very typical Laphi
      sweet smoke and iodine
yellowish to pinkish sweetish fruit behind
      reddish sweet gooseberry and apricot
clear odor of iodine in the sea mud with smoke
      summer garden
dusty dry earth, rose petals and frankincense
the nose is delicate and noble with beautiful complex note combinations
    • Taste
      the entrance is cool
      sweet smoke on the tongue
      he is getting hot
dissolves into delicate fruit champagne with strawberry touch and white chocolate
Sea slime again with iodine and smoke in the end, I have a memory
Coriander ham, apricot meat and warm goat cream cheese
I should drink it for that
      could be great
    • Finish
on the palate remains the sweet champagne / strawberry reminder
alternating with sea mud, iodine and smoke

  5. Mannix65 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Young and unbalanced, somehow unfinished and superficial - looks designed
    • Nose
Dominant alcohol, only after prolonged ventilation, the typical phenolic smoke comes to the fore, sawdust and wood varnish, a little orange, red currant
    • Taste
Sugar sweetness with iodine smoke, still alcoholic, strawberry and raspberry
    • Finish
relatively long with a lot of smoke

And again a very good Cairdeas - this time he was allowed to ripen for another 2 years in Madeira Hogsheads ...
    • Nose
      surprisingly little smoke, slight alcoholic notes, young, sweet grapes;
    • Taste
      aromatic fruity onset, bananas ?, seasoning, oak, low smoke;
    • Finish
      long finish; Marzipan, smoke, cold ashes echo;

In my opinion, a very successful filling of Laphroaig. The finish in the Madeira barrel gives the whisky a nice balance of the sweetness and fruitiness of the wine barrel and the medicinal acerbity of a young Laphis. In addition a great minty herbal spice, which forms a great contrast to the sweetness.
    • Nose
      90 90
Nuts, marzipan, red berries. The typical phenolic-medicinal Laphi smoke. Sweet and herbal spicy (dried herbs), peppery. Cooling mint and after a while even a bit of dark chocolate. Everything very coherent and intense

With water: First, the whisky lighter, but after some waiting the flavors come through again. The smoke gets dirtier, the nose gets a little cooler, you find dark sugar and caramel as well as a clear honey sweetness.
    • Taste
      90 90
Intense smoky licorice, vinous, very sweet. In the course of becoming cooler, bitter chocolate and mint (After Eight in beautiful). White pepper, some light fruits and berries. The vinous notes dominate the taste.

With water: the dry sweetness continues to dominate - further the typical smoke, grapey and light fruit flavors like mango and papaya.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium long, the smoke remains dominant here, ashen phenolic comes over it. With some light fruits and grapes. Plus a long-lasting sweetness that stays in the mouth.

    Cairdeas tasting side to side.
    Samples: Feis Ile 2016, 15yo 2002, Feis Ile 2018.
General thoughts: Very enjoyable drams, great on the nose although unusual as they all lack power, smokiness and seemed too diluted, somewhat bitter. I rated them 82, 83, 83 in that order. Tag price is abusive for them all.

    • Nose
      83 83
Very good nose again for Cairdeas. Smoke, herbs, phenol, vanilla, caramel, herbs. This version has an undefined sour note to it.
    • Taste
      82 82
Mineral and light smoke. Again, weak-bodied, honey, with berries and banana notes as a surplus.
    • Finish
      81 81
      Medium-long and sharp.
