      The nose is cognac-ish, sweet and oaky with notes of bitter chocolate, grapefruit, tangerines and caramel.

      The taste has a salty with mild bitterness profile with hints of spicy oak, grapefruit zest, chocolate and green tea.

      The finish is medium lenght with a domination of bitter oakiness with hints of orange zest and chocolate.

    Sponge cake, flowers, butter, shortbread, light orchard fruits, hint of orange, light vanilla, honey, barley sugar, sandalwood. The age is evident in the restrained elegance of the nose and palate. It's a 'pretty' whisky, and I find myself quite attracted by it.

      Pretty volatile and enjoyable. Vanilla. Citrus. Fresh, green grass. Green apples. White cream with hints of lemon oil. A pinch of spices. Cloves.

    Honestly this is really poor, it is weak, with a manufactured flavour.
    The finish is ok but that is as good as it gets, I cannot be bothered to even describe it.

    There's obvious age and immediate enjoyability, but something seems lost in the new release. The fruit isn't as sherry-rich and there's a darker, more bitter or tannic vein running through it. It's nice, but it lacks something to make it worth coming back to at the price.

    Note:
    Time shifts the nose to oxidized orchard fruits, cold fruit pies/cobbler, dried pineapple cubes and candied ginger, with a distant scent of old books kept in cardboard boxes.

    Water brings out malt and vanilla on the nose and dulls the fruit and spice. Similarly, brings out malt on the palate, but dulls the other flavors. Water is not recommend.

      Fresh orchard fruits (Fuji and Granny Smith apples), the distant smell of macerated berries and cut oranges, baking fruit pies and cobbler, oak spice with a touch of high cocoa dark chocolate, and white and tropical fruit candies (think pastels and haribo gummy bears) fading to ginger and earthy garden herbs.
    • Taste
      Dark chocolate covered freshly cut fruits, a flash of floral honey, baked fruit and oak spice, sharp cinnamon candy that lingers, and licorice root tea sweetened with bittersweet molasses.
    • Finish
      A touch of bittersweet floral, and a long fade out of high cocoa hot chocolate powder, sharp baking spices (cardamom), and oak tannins.

    Notes from a blind tasting
    • Nose
      a lot of oak, some dried fruits, slightly sweet, the oak notes are very superficial. Somehow reminiscent of a Bowmore without smoke, you can guess a pair of citrus fruits. After a while in the air, the oak notes take back a little and a pair of fruit and malt emerge
    • Taste
      Quite soft in the beginning, sweetish malty, some fruit and vanilla, nuts and caramel, the oak is not as present here as in the nose
    • Finish
      quite short, sweet with the nuts and the malt, then there are citrus fruits and a slightly sour note

    One of these bottlings that are not baaaad, but meh... rather forgetable and not exiting at all. Buy for around 60 EUR if you must but be aware that this 18 is not on the forefront of what 18 yo whiskies are capable of... ;-)

    I estimated this whisky 14 years old and would have given it two more points. For 18 years he's really not very impressive.

    Nice nose, fails in the palate ans the expectations about a noble 18 years old. Like the finish too. Good whisky for summer. Good daily dram, you will enjoy, but that is the problem, price and age don't match with definition of "daily dram"

      Typical Auchentoshan trademark. Cereal, lemon, vanilla, honey, ginger, dried seaweed, wasabi. That green tea notes that shows the label appears sometimes. Green apple. Elegant and discrete, but with nice evolution. Let it breath

      Floral, bit sour, dry, delicate, green tea, lemon marmalade. Hints of oak
    • Finish
      Incredible long for this kind of whisky. Very hot. Like when you eat wasabi. But not overwhelming .

    Very harmonious and perfect in its own way, suitable for both novice and casual connoisseurs, it is a fitting ex-Bourbon 18, although it does not have the complexity or intensity of flavor that many would expect at such an age.

      In the nose prevail barrel-typical influences of citrus (lime) and the associated acidity and sweetness, hay, very slight Nussigkeit (reminiscent of Monte), butter, vanilla sugar. Amazingly fresh for an 18-year-old.

      N: in ordine sparso, ci vengono in mente suggestioni varie e non così sorprendenti: uvetta, forse mela rossa, frutta secca e miele (croccante al miele?), malto caldo, un qualcosa tra caramello vaniglia e toffee; e come dimenticare un pizzico di scorza d’arancia? Detta così, sembra tutto molto piacevole, e lo è, tuttavia non ci liberiamo di un senso di ‘appiattimento generale’ degli aromi – ricchi sì, ma, se ha senso, un po’ privi di profondità. E poi, a dirla tutta, a tratti ci arriva anche un vago senso di cartone bagnato.

      P: il corpo è molto facile, l’effetto è di grande beverinità; ancora tornano le suggestioni di miele, di frutta gialla (soprattutto albicocca, ma non si dimentichi la mela gialla); poi un sacco di vaniglia, complicata da una bella sfumatura agrumata che ci par proprio mandarino.

    Dry and less fruity than the "Bartender's Malt", round, vanilla I do not think so.
    I like the whole thing better, grassy-dry tastes good, but the 75 € can actually justify with "Triple Distilled", otherwise there is much better in the price area.

      No plastic, a cupboard of old dried spices, dry hay, dry soil, stubble field, green tea. Fried cake, freshly cut onions, dried figs.
    • Taste
      "Greener", again the onions, soft, woody-dry, earth, ripe plums, figs.
    • Finish
      Green tea, lemon, dry, long.

    Something I do not like in this dram. He reminds me of a Highland Park and I do not really like Highland Park. This has the same.

      Wood. Vanilla. Heavy smell. If you wait, sweet fruit notes come forward.

      Soft, full, but also somewhat musty. Little pinkish.

    To the eye:
    Deep golden summer barley.

    To the nose:
    Fresh tobacco leaf with caramelised sugars, green tea and toasted almonds.

    To the tongue:
    Fresh and floral, with tangy zestiness.

    A refreshing finish that invigorates the mouth.
