Whisky Reviews for Laphroaig 18-year-old

What makes this whisky is its perfect balance. The flavors are complex and everything is well integrated, especially the smoke and the alcohol. Nothing wins here a disturbing dominance. He has matured in the 18 years in the best sense of the word. The smoke is pushed back, but has lost nothing of its character, everything fits together harmoniously. Hard to believe that the supplies should be finally at last. It's a pity, it's one of my favorite drums.
    • Nose
Mild, yet powerful Laphroaig smoke beguiles the nose with a clear hint of vanilla. After a few moments unfolds the full variety of flavors. Sea, iodine, salt on one side, but also caramel macchiato and some orange peel on the other side. The longer you smell it, the drier and stiffer it gets. Malt flavors come up. In between, the alcohol taps surprisingly strong for a Laphroaig, but does not get uncomfortable. Warms much stronger sweet notes, especially vanilla.
    • Taste
Very powerful onset, only slightly honey sweet, but very spicy with clear oak and strong, salty smoke. Lightly burned grilled meat with honey marinade.
    • Finish
The sweetness and the salt fade only slowly, and on the palate remain an ashy smoky note and the tannins of the oak long to very long.

First of all said one of the best 18s I own. This velvety delicate despite plenty of alcohol is very special. The sea air nose and the taste of salty, sweet, fruity to smoky, everything there, ... fantastic. House whisky.

Very special is the combination of fresh sea breeze with nutty chocolate notes. Everything also makes a very set impression. With peaty maltiness, sweet candies and spicy but wonderfully subtle smoke.
    • Taste

Everything in the middle weight class but wonderfully creamy. With leathery smoke and always sweet with bitter notes, but not disturbing. Fruity and floral rather graßig with earthy ash. It still salty caramel with citrus notes. A poem.
    • Finish

Very tender, soft and still long. Peppery with a metallic finish but not too bitter. Very special and always sweet.

Nose: light, varnished wood, intrusive smoke, plum and cherry (possibly dried or dried), marsh grass, sodden wood. Empty glass baked unsweetened apples echoing vegetables.
Mouth: sweetish, dry oak, ash, ash, sea water, algae.
Aftertaste: very long, tart, tannin, burnt sulfur on matches.
    Score: solid 88 points
