Whisky Reviews for Balvenie 17-year-old
6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.77 points
- It has amber colour. The nose is sweet with apples, honey, muffins, oak, dried fruits, plums jam, stewed apples and vanilla notes. The palate is sweet with honey, apples, candies, spices and oak notes. The finish is long and sweet with apples, oak, honey, duchess pears and black pepper notes.
- one of the most intense 43% malts I've ever had - very spicy and nut / chocolate dark with intense toasty aromas - I would never have thought of a Balvenie or even a Speysider - could be 25yo ++ too - flattering and spicy. The style is not 100% my thing but the quality is impressively high and the malt has a very high recognition value.
starts mild and sweet - honey, raisins, wax, furniture polish, grassy - freshly cut meadow, very beautiful juicy oak, anise, lime, lemon, bay leaf, caraway, rose water
herb - tobacco, ginger, pepper, walnut shells, dark chocolate, hazelnut cream, pine resin, tree sap, - spicy intense - only very subtly fruity dried fruit, dates, raisins - tender bitter spicy oak, dry, sherry acid - compared to the 12er and for the low alcohol content an absolute oak board
dry, dark chocolate, walnuts, coffee - medium long with a tendency to be too long
