[July, 2016] This is stuff from the old Benromach stills (remember: the new owners G&M installed totally different stills at Benromach - much smaller with longer necks than the original ones), so this is not comparable to the new Benromach style. Indeed, this is old style whisky - just the way as I love it most. Fat, oily, mouth-coating and lovely sweet. I do not understand why UD shut down this distillery as this is a perfect blending malt: It adds substance to any kind of a desired blend without dominating ...and it is just so sippable.
The only flaw is a rather short finish so the bottle empties faster than usual (you have to re-sip more often to keep this nice flavour). It was a good value for the buck back in the nineties and I guess you will find a bottle for a reasonable price in one or the other online auction even nowadays (I bought it for 75 Euro in October 2012).
Recommended to anyone who wants to try a perfect example of an old style whisky (before marketeers started to design the profiles of modern whiskies). Slainte!
