Merkwürdige unangenehme Note im Aroma.  Sherry, Würze. Etwas bittere Holznoten im Abgang.

Könnte sein, dass mit meiner Flasche irgendwas nicht stimmte.

Nose

Floral and fruity, cherries, plums, vanilla, spices, also a hint of cocoa and coffee are detectable.

Taste

Very nicely rounded whisky, full, complex palate. Sweet, filled with chocolate, vanilla, toffee and fruits - plums, grapes, cherries.

Finish

Medium to long, dominated by malt and chocolate. Warming, mouthfilling and pleasant.

Comments

Compared in parallel with the 10, this one is so much butter, but both are great value for the price.

Nose: grass, honey, spices, vegetation

Body: full, rich, sharp

Palate: grass, honey, spice, vegetation

Like its younger sibling, the Aberlour 16 has a spritely way about it. Vegetation, honey, and floral scents on the nose remind me of springtime. The body is quite full--It clings to the sides of the glass for a very long time. The palate is very similar to the nose. The finish is long, with a faint kick of bitterness just at the end which rounds the whole sip out very nicely.

It is not quite as mellow as one might expect of a 16 year maturation, but that adds to its sprightliness. It is a rich and very enjoyable drink, but--and I hope I'm not being controversial--I'm not sure I feel that it's a huge improvement over the 12.

A wonderfully rich and indulgent whisky.  Spiced fruit compote with honey and vanilla and a drizzle of malt syrup.  I have yet to encounter an Aberlour expression that isn`t a real palate pleaser.

Nose

Sherry, vanilla sweetness. Soft and hardly any sharpness to it, apart from a slight spicy note. Fruity as well, malty. Nothing really stands out. Subtle.

Taste

Chocolate is the first thing. A little drying, oaky and malty. Nutmeg spices, no bitterness to be found. Very subtle again.

Finish

The softness is still here, with vanilla and chocolate sweetness. Malty at the end.

Comments

This has nothing that stands out in aromas, but I rather enjoy that soft subtleness. Very enjoyable.
