This Whisky needs a good splash of water to open up. But then it develops really nice, reminding me of some wonderful lowlander style from the 70ies or so.

An absolute bargain (app. 100€) and I´m happy to have laid my hands on it in time!
    • Nose
Quite closed this one with light fruits like sour apples, mirabells and citrus notes in the background. The alcohol gives a gluey bite on your nostrils from time to time.

With water: the gluey bite vanishes, the fruits step to the foreground, accompanied by malt sugar, a lot of vanilla and some nice mellow oaky tones. Is that a faint smokey whiff in the back or is it some oakspice?
    • Taste
With water: initially fruity as found while nosing. Then promptly followed by a big wave of wonderful suuugarrrrryyyy maaaaalt and vanilla. Really intense and mouthcoating! While the wave breaks down, nice oaky (totally unbitter) and Bourbon cask notes arise and the light fruits return. The latter appear a bit sweeter as on the nose and the start, but may be that´s more due to the still lingering sweet malt sugar.
    • Finish
With water: the oaky tones are dominant, but still it stays nice and mellow, no bitterness. Vanilla. Malt. The fruits are pretty quiet. Ah, and there it is, very faint in the background, but it´s there: subtle, dry woodsmoke.

I am not an expert on Tomatins, but this one is quite special. I get aceton in the nose and then in the taste more of what I last tasted when drinking self-made Slibowitz. Unique. May be a love-it-or-hate it one. Unfortunately not one for me :(
