  1. sagara-kun scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

This Lochside has a slightly flat nose but catches up on the palate and on the finish.
    • Nose
      82 82
Very light nose, mainly focused on grains.
We feel the reduction a little too much.
Fresh cut grass, lemon, lemongrass, pepper, wood.

      It doesn't tell much.
    • Taste
      85 85
In the mouth it is oily and salty.
We start with the fruit, rather juicy. Lemon of course.
Light wood, spices, cloves, pepper, vanilla, light caramel. Light licorice.
      Always the grassy side.
    • Finish
      86 86
Very saline finish, with caramel, lemon, a little redcurrant and a little camphor.

  2. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Is more than ok, really tasty, has absolutely nothing special, could also be so much blind from the Highlands.
    • Nose
Sweet cereals and grasses, lovely and not complex, but also no missing notes, vanilla, light toffee, candied lemon peel, light wood, a hint of white pepper, tick aniseed
    • Taste
Subtle peppery start, white pepper, fresh ginger, light honey, cloves, anise, toffee, candied lemon peel and sweet grasses, subtle light malt, green apple in the background
    • Finish
Light toast, not toasted, with a bit of lemon ginger spread, a touch of malt and green apple, very subtle, a little salty, short to medium

  3. The_Osprey scored this whisky 72 points Expert Senior

Lochside (Gordon Macphail 1991-2007) 43%. Chuffed to try this - the distillery was based in a quirky 18th century brewery building in Montrose before the site was tragically demolished in 2005. This whisky was distilled immediately prior to the distillery being mothballed, and bottled when it had been demolished. Consumed Dec 2020. Pale yellow. Aroma is oaky, papery, soft fruits, alcohol and white bread. A little too empty and bready. Taste is oaky, a little smoky, breathy spiritous and somewhat hot, quite spicy, touch of goat cheese, lightly bready, quite rough around the edges. Spicy and hot. Slightly vegetal. Unique character but I can see why it maybe never became a classic big-selling malt. Like a peppery bitter vodka. Not bad and totally drinkable but pretty rough. Again, it's great to try a whisky from this ex-distillery though. 3.0/72

S; very oily. Citrus, pepper, gooseberries, menthol, raspberries, Grape juice.
    • Finish

F; medium long. Bitterness, some spices and slightly chemical.

  5. VWWW scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Nice dram, you get dried citrus fruits, some gentle smoke like heating hay, and a pretty long after taste.

  6. Carsten scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Color: pale gold Nose: restrained, grains, malt, vanilla, grasses, with a hint of citrus over time Body: medium / oily Mouth: Mild, vanilla, sweet notes, green tea, pepper, some citrus Finish: medium, chocolate and bitter oak notes and also citrus notes Conclusion: 80p, Old School Whisky, takes time to open up a bit

  7. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

In the mouth he is a bit too "robust", but otherwise I like the profile great. Has something from Springbank.
    • Nose
subtle peat flavors, lots of grains, a nice fruitiness and citrus.
    • Taste
here he is more difficult. Very sprightly, alcoholic, "hard", bitter oak notes accompanied by a little peat smoke. Becomes a bit tamer over time.
    • Finish
nice again on citrus peels, oak and a nice smokiness.
