Not much interesting, you would have expected something better. Although now we can see what kind of casks are being used for a quick finish. This one should have been as well.
    • Nose
      79 79
Perfume, some hay, straw and a hint of alcohol. There is an strange off-note in the background, which I find hard to describe.
      Not a very interesting nose.
    • Taste
      81 81
Sweet arrival. Some grass notes, hint of caramel, vanilla. Some citrus in the background.
After a while the caramel makes its way forward.
    • Finish
      80 80
Medium length. Classic bourbon influences. like caramel, wood and some cookie dough.

  2. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Well after 20 years of maturation this is nothing more then a refill disappointment. Not going to spoil a lot of words on this. Should have been re-racked to a more active cask. This one was past dead already I guess.
    • Nose
Closed, earthy and even a bit sulphur. The nose is a bit dull and not very outspoken. Not a very pleasant nose imho and besides that it’s hard to describe specific flavors.
    • Taste
Thin, sweet and dry. Also the taste is not very outspoken and even a bit tasteless. There is some fruit, vanilla and licorice maybe but it doesn’t convince me at all.
    • Finish
Unfortunately the finish doesn’t cut it either. It stays rather dull. There is mud and a pleasant spiciness in the finish but this doesn’t save the day.

  6. Tauti scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

I had the bottle open a little longer now and I must say that the whisky did not harm this. The alcohol tips were smoothed and accordingly, the tasting notes are also to understand the longer open bottle.
    • Nose
Grassy and slightly wet straw, a very small amount of peat is also there. Then, citrus and apple, I smell something flowery.
    • Taste
A malty sweetness at the beginning, then citrus and vanilla as well as an oily-nutty saltiness. Go for me in the direction of salted peanuts.
    • Finish
medium, first slightly sour and voluminous (oily) a slight tingling with salt and pepper remains.

the nose is very charming, the mouth a notch below. Nice as a whole.
    • Nose
what strikes me is the subtle and distant evocation of peat (of smoke?) which coats a nose marked by vanilla and fruits (green apples and pears). Very pleasantly articulated, the nose is delicate and relatively complex if one takes the time to let the dram open. Very fresh, a little citric.
    • Taste
the palate is coherent, balanced, quite fresh and citric. A bit of bitterness along the way. The development is of medium length. We find fruits and citrus fruits. The vanilla-spice combo of the mid-palate works well. Very nice
    • Finish
The finish seems less interesting, with the appearance of a bitterness fine but nothing supported. It looks like a younger whisky. A drum a little too tired perhaps. A malty return, however, cut the bitterness at the end of the mouth.

  9. St. Pauli scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Take your time, use water and this whisky turns from a rather unpleasant sweaty drink to a pleasant dram.
    • Nose
Yes, this is Tobermory. The distillery uses peated water, which is clearly detectable in the nose. Combined with lime and grass, it smells like erhmm... sweat socks and cauliflower. Time to wait a bit longer. Yep, that's better. The character of this whisky is dominated by herbs, grass, lemon, pear and some peat.
    • Taste
Sweeter, with more barley now, reducing the green side to a certain extent. There is vanilla now, apple, pear, but still some lemon sherbet and some marzipan.
    • Finish
Medium, rather peppery and gingery, with barley, grass, mint and lemon zest.
