Whisky Reviews for Bernheim Original 07-year-old

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Quite spicy for a wheated whiskey in my view, but nicely crafted Bernheim.
    • Nose
Gentle oakiness of sandal wood. Fresh vanilla. Aniseed. Slightly dusty. Also associations of (old skool) stimorol chewing gum
    • Taste
Soft and lemony to start with some perfumed honey. Cream toffee. Plum jam. Some toasted chestnuts intermingled with spicy rye. Quite minty later on. Lots of flavor development.
    • Finish
Medium long. Peppery. Nutmeg and a little ginger. Bitter chocolate. Pine at the end.

  2. Lu Cifer scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Very pleasant, fruit compote and warm cookies, light alcohol note and sweetsweet sweetness, not quite Bourbon atypical flavors, hint of vanilla. From the nose, I would tap on a bourbon.
Light spicy and tart-sweet taste, tingling bit on the tongue, clear oak notes, quickly softens.
Soft, balanced, tart and sweet-bodied, long and slightly dry on the finish, but not bitter with a hint of sweetness and roasted aromas.
The sweetness typical of Bourbon is missing.

This has been on my radar for a long time, and thanks to Lincolnimp for the sample. Definitely seek a bottle out.

Excellent. A very enjoyable dram that offers a lot.
    • Nose
Straight away Huba Buba chewing gum, felt tip pen, a new book smell, vanilla and sherbet dip. Some sort of orange or tangerine. Gooseberry mixed with lemon fool.
    • Taste
Again the sherbet, not the powdered stuff, more like the sugary stuff. This is sweet but not too sweet for me, just right. Also not as rich as some. A nice balance and again the citrus flavours dance around the tongue.
    • Finish
A strong medium sweet finish with a spicy punch on the death.

  5. lincolnimp scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Some nice flavours emerging on the palate, creamy sweet, something different for sure. Not bad in all honesty, almost too sweet.
