    • Nose
      88 88
      Soft, especially sherry, almond, wood
    • Taste
      89 89
soft, difficult (this is my first real note)
    • Finish
      87 87
      Lingers fairly, but is pleasant

  2. Portfolioman scored this whisky 80 points Expert Junior

Beautiful blended malt. For an eight year old but with 60 € rather expensive.
    • Nose
sweet, ripe and already somewhat fermented fruits; a little sherry; very light smoke, in the background also some old leather
    • Taste
strong start; Sherry; spicy; Oak note (such as chocolate half-bitter); first a little creamy, but then becoming metallic; Smoke only weak; slightly peppery
    • Finish
      getting drier (ash), medium long

    Tasted Blind.

It certainly is pretty characterful and to be fair it does not cheat in that what you get on the nose prepares you for what comes after, so if you are in the mood for it this is good stuff with plenty of body.

I originally suspected an older Speyside or a young fierce whisky masquerading as an older whisky through finishing. I didn't conceive it might actually be both old and young blended together.

I wonder at the reasoning of taking the older Bunnahabhain, Tamdhu and Highland Park and mixing it with the younger Glenrothes. Maybe it was planned that way or perhaps the older blend wasn't actually doing much in a refill sherry butt so it got spruced up with the Glenrothes (or vice versa depending on relative quantities). It is a bit of an oddity - interesting but when you know what it is, slightly questionable.
    • Nose
      86 86
somewhat overripe/mouldy fruit; some refill sherry in there; Christmas spices; mandarins
    • Taste
      76 76
pleasant heavy overbearing charcoal woodiness becomes slightly tart and thin; on some sips I notice a rather chemical note like a cleaning product; there is a marked harshness which suggests youth
    • Finish
      80 80
medium but takes a few sips to get to sustained; slightly woody and dry

  4. Defeatless scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Peat, some vanilla, sweet red fruit, hint of salt and ashes.

Sweet, hint of peat, bread, then again peat with a clear sherry influence. Ends a bit sweet and sour.

medium-long Length. Peat, but also very sweet, like those ultra sweet and not tasty sweets in different plastics (but taste all the same).

Well for an 8yo, it could have been under 40yo I suppose. So rather expensive.

Don't know, this was a sample.

This one gets less peaty with 3ml water on a 30ml pour, which made it better imho.

  5. KayMeertens did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The nose is the Highland Park, Tamdhu and Bunna profiles all have their say, but in the taste the typical maltiness of Glenrothes comes forward more strongly.
    • Nose
Berries and caramel from sherry casks. Tobacco, peat, vanilla and cocoa.
    • Taste
Malt, peat, cocoa, peach, spice, citrus, orange, vanilla and caramel. The sherry is less present than in the nose.
    • Finish
      Peat, peach and cocoa.

  6. Hare&Copper scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    • Taste
Sappy, malty, sour, caramel, honey, ash
