Oogadal is completely right. This grain whisky needs time to reveal all its flavors. Not an easy dram with in my view unusual nose and palate. It has quite some depth and complexity though. Present for my lovely wife who can really appreciate older grain whisky's. I'm blessed!
    • Nose
Interesting nose with lots of floral notes of geraniums and freesias. Laurel-leaves, cut grass, and lavender. Nettle as well. Touch of sandal wood later on. The usual grain characteristics of glue, pencil shavings and sawdust are there, but more on the background and in a very subtle way.
    • Taste
Now more on delicate fruity sweetness. I got apple-mint, juicy conference pears and white grapes. Followed with hints of lemon zest and orange peel. Also notes of acacia honey and touch of vanilla. Later on some roasted almonds. This grain whisky has a pleasant oily and silky mouthfeel.
    • Finish
Medium long. White pepper. A little clove. Liquorice. Pine at the and. Complex and well balanced grain.

N: smells like citrus, slightly spicy, oranges, some vanilla

M: gooseberry, oranges, tropical fruits, great vanilla, spicy

A: The spice stays pretty long, a little bit of orange then vanilla sugar

    • Nose
Lemon, glue, orange, vanilla, pastry and spice. Water releases a spicy oak influence, even like virgin oak, and a little clay.
    • Taste
Lemon, spice, orange, vanilla and caramel. The addition of water makes it sweeter, but also adds that same clay note.
    • Finish
Lemon, vanilla sugar, orange and caramel.

He needs his time in the glass. After that he has a great nose. Taste and finish are in no way inferior. Here is the total package including the price (March 2016 about 80 €)
    • Nose
Raisins, light tar and light sulfur, somehow the smell reminds me of Sauerbraten, vanilla, slightly salty
    • Taste
oily, sweet vanilla, slightly peppery, again raisins, spicy and again light tar and light sulfur
    • Finish
medium length, oak, sweetness, again oily and slightly salty, slight sherry influence

Everyone tasting and reviewing single grains should bare in mind they all need quite some time in the glass. I can't help noticing reviews probably based on a single dram tasted on a festival. Not the place to review any whisky, and certainly not a single grain of this caliber!

The guys at Donald Hart really have done an outstanding job! This is great stuff, not a big sherry bomb (you have to get the Port Dundas for that) but a great balanced kind of old skool refill barrel matured. Slightly reminds me of 1970's Longmorns on refill sherry barrel.

Nose; white grapes, pear, sweet vanilla, slightly pale raisins.

Taste; oily, sweet, light sherry influence, pear, cherry's. very mild pepper, mild spices like cinnamon. Great balance.

Finish; a tad short, but again, very smooth, oily and sweet.

At prices under € 90 actually pretty cheap for a 25 yo Scotch!
