- N: smells like citrus, slightly spicy, oranges, some vanilla
M: gooseberry, oranges, tropical fruits, great vanilla, spicy
A: The spice stays pretty long, a little bit of orange then vanilla sugar
Lemon, glue, orange, vanilla, pastry and spice. Water releases a spicy oak influence, even like virgin oak, and a little clay.
Lemon, spice, orange, vanilla and caramel. The addition of water makes it sweeter, but also adds that same clay note.
Lemon, vanilla sugar, orange and caramel.
- He needs his time in the glass. After that he has a great nose. Taste and finish are in no way inferior. Here is the total package including the price (March 2016 about 80 €)
Raisins, light tar and light sulfur, somehow the smell reminds me of Sauerbraten, vanilla, slightly salty
oily, sweet vanilla, slightly peppery, again raisins, spicy and again light tar and light sulfur
medium length, oak, sweetness, again oily and slightly salty, slight sherry influence
- Everyone tasting and reviewing single grains should bare in mind they all need quite some time in the glass. I can't help noticing reviews probably based on a single dram tasted on a festival. Not the place to review any whisky, and certainly not a single grain of this caliber!
The guys at Donald Hart really have done an outstanding job! This is great stuff, not a big sherry bomb (you have to get the Port Dundas for that) but a great balanced kind of old skool refill barrel matured. Slightly reminds me of 1970's Longmorns on refill sherry barrel.
Nose; white grapes, pear, sweet vanilla, slightly pale raisins.
Taste; oily, sweet, light sherry influence, pear, cherry's. very mild pepper, mild spices like cinnamon. Great balance.
Finish; a tad short, but again, very smooth, oily and sweet.
At prices under € 90 actually pretty cheap for a 25 yo Scotch!
