Very intense and warming whisky, but very fresh and friendly as well. Nicely balanced, I really like this one a lot.

Very fresh and friendly, vanilla, citrus, some coconut. Pretty strong alcohol. Cookies. Pineapple, tropical fruit in general.

Still some pepper, warming, intense, honey, peach and pineapple, vanilla. Pretty long, even some tobacco now in the finish.

    NOSE
Complex dried orchard fruit, honey, toffee, cocoa, toasted bread, citrus peels, waxy vanilla fondant and lighter notes of coconut, nuts and baking spice.

I could sniff this all night, the complex fruit brings out waves of apricots, apples, pears and more. It love it.

    PALATE
Complex dried orchard fruit, honey, sultanas, coconut, vanilla cupcakes, oak, toffee and bit fo banana chips and baking spice with a slight earthiness.

This has a heaviness to it that rolls through with a noticeable oak profile.

    FINISH
Med-Long -> Fruit and malty graham takes its time fading out to a honied fruit note.

  5. Roland7 scored this whisky 81 points Expert Junior

An old wooden box with red apples and unripe strawberries! Red currant, cranberry, grapefruit, honey, toffee, candy, menthol, grain, rusk, old tree.

    Odor :
Typical bourbon: vanilla, citrus, some apples and pears.
Compared to the C13, it is more voluminous and yet the alcohol is wonderfully integrated.
Sea air and quite tropical / southern (fruits mango, apricot and peach).

    The taste:
Great start: citrus and vanilla, sweetness (honey), Christmas cookies (vanilla crescents, cinnamon stars). Fills the mouth and tolerates a few drops of water.
Then the tropical/southern fruits come out more clearly.
Slight peppery spiciness (maybe the alcohol too) and a light touch of tannins. Sweetness, sourness (citrus) and light saltiness in the interplay.

    finish :
Long: Slightly spicy, on vanilla, cinnamon with a hint of chili heat (determined by the alcohol), the fruitiness is clearly present.
    good old stuff :-)

That was already a great whisky for 60 € / liter (2010), my favorite Glenmorangie back then, after I was "through" with the Wood Finish series, that made me consciously like bourbon cask whiskys as well.
    • Nose
he was allowed to breathe for a long time in the open bottle - initially dusty, old wood, a bit of a citrus note, crispy-biscuit, which gets a sip of water -> coconut cookies, cereals, vanilla, a little hay, the alcohol is present, but rather refreshing as piercing, even more water brings fruity notes, lemon, pineapple, banana -> gummy bears
    • Taste
initially fruity, peach, tangerine, banana, then sweeter, cereals, overripe banana, milk chocolate, goes into milk coffee, nut, some pepper
    • Finish
      long, warm, dry and peppery

  16. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Beautifully composed, beautifully intense, a very good ex-bourbon whisky
    • Nose
Sweet, cotton candy, nectarine, sour apple, vanilla, malty, some leather, slightly spicy, a hint of chocolate
    • Taste
Full-bodied, chocolate, sweet, nectarine, juicy, a little espresso, roasted, bittersweet
    • Finish
The apple is stronger, ripe and floury, sour, apple peel, slight sharpness, while bitter dark chocolate

I didn't get any off notes, but a typical bourbon cask profile. Nice.
    Notes based on a sample.
    • Nose
Classical bourbon notes of vanilla, apples and pears. It's sharp, concentrated and to the point. Also some mango, apricot and peach.
    • Taste
Intense and rounded, white sugar, apple, pear, custard, Christmas cake all the way. Tropical fruits and spicy pepper and chilli towards the end.
    • Finish
Slightly spicy, on cinnamon and ginger, after a while the fruit sweetness continues. Quite long.

    sample.

actually quite good if it wasn't for the very disgusting vomit note. besides, what on earth are mountain oak casks?
    • Nose
yeasty. cider vinegar. gets then very citrusy and fresh. then some marzipan and freshly baked bread. goes on with some fresh paint. rotten apples. and something unpleasant that reminds me of sour milk/yoghurt.
    • Taste
peaches at first. then some yoghurt taste which is quite disgusting in a way, because it reminds me of vomit. with water: the vomit is gone, now i get some vanilla/ citrus notes again. sour oranges or orange-cheese cake.
    • Finish
long indeed. citrusy again. spicy and minty. some honey in the aftertaste.

With water it smells even sweeter but the palate falls apart.

I found this very simple, no complexity and rather boring, it tastes like a cheap blend to me and I have tried a few of them recently.

A let down to be honest.
    • Nose
Massive vanilla, Battenburg cake, marzipan, egg custard, strawberry cream tart.

      Basically its cake.
    • Taste
That's a bit thinner than expected but its sweet and spicy with it.

Cake again, lemon sherbet, a touch of almond.
    • Finish
Shorter than expected at 57% and a little drying.

  23. J.K.Ch scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Great whisky, but the price is unnecessarily high for my taste. But it is probably the best Scotch without the smoke I had the chance to taste.
    • Nose
Hazelnut blend, vanilla sweetness pleasant woodiness, hint of caramel complex and very rich
    • Taste
Amazing sweet, caramel, first whisky in which I feel mushrooms. Furthermore, honey and distinctive fruity, but for Glenmorangie the typical pear flavor is missing. And a vanilla flavor. Alcohol is perfectly fine rounded.
    • Finish

Glenmorangie ‘Traditional’ (57.2%, OB, circa 2004)  Colour: pale straw. Nose: much more subdued than its older brother at fist nosing, jumping then almost directly to the grassy and farmy notes. Again, some whiffs of peat and rubber, and then some very flowery notes, like lilac and buttercup. It gets somewhat cleaner than the ‘100 proof’. Some vanilla fudge and butter caramel do emerge after a while, though… In a whole, it’s a little more restrained, a little less farmy, and also a little fresher, but it’s still rather similar. Again, nice! Mouth: again, a strong and punchy attack, and again a somewhat ‘simpler’ feeling, with more caramel, cold tea, malt – and more fruits too. Cooked apple, caramelised pear, cassata. A very nice retro-olfaction on fresh fruits and violet sweets. Again, perhaps it’s somewhat fresher than the ‘old’ one, but also a little less complex and a little more ‘smack in your face’. Okay, I’ll go for one point less, but I wouldn’t say it’s ‘less good’, just a little livelier, but also simpler. 84 points

    • Nose
Diluted with water: very aromatic. Gingerbread, vanilla pudding, cappuccino, toffees, and removes smoke. For a 10 year old whisky amazingly complex and ripe.
    • Taste
Diluted with water: Very intense mouthfeel, without disturbing burning of the alcohol. It develops aromas of citrus, some toffee, pepper, cloves and some cinnamon.
    • Finish
Long and intense with pepper, salt and clove. Especially the clove aroma lingers for quite a long time.

    Body: Smooth, firm, slightly gritty.
Palate: Richer, more substantial. Fuller flavours. Sandy-salty notes.
Finish: Robust. Intensely salty. Very long. Soothing.
Comment: In the same style of the two above (GM Cellar 13YO 43% & GM Millennium Malt 12 40%), but without chill-filtering and at cask strength.
    Score: 83

I do not know if this is any traditional Glenmo, but I do know that it is a beauty.
    • Nose
The nose is prickly and herbal. I get hay, buttercups, wood shavings and even a touch of peat, albeit quite light. Very alcoholic, though. Cloves and liquorice. It takes a while for the fruit to get to the surface. Apple, white grapes and a slice of mandarin. Hazelnut, caramel and malt. Drying.
    • Taste
On the palate, it turns very fruity. Maraschino cherries, apples and pears. Light hints of citrus. Loads of liquorice and black pepper. Great woodsmoke. Hints of vanilla and a lot of caramel.
    • Finish
The finish is very long and spicy, on hay and grass, but also cereals. The mouth is left dry.

Personally I think people underestimate this one. It is subtle and retains youthful notes, but it is a great drinker.
    • Nose
The cleanest of malted barley with tinned peaches and light custard. Fresh and faintly floral like a mountainside in a summer breeze. There's a gentle creaminess too.
    • Taste
The initial attack is fruity, like a fruit cocktail dusted with chunky grains of refined sugar. hen the sugar melts into the fruit and sets your mouth to watering.
    • Finish
It remains clean, sweet and fruity to the end. Even at full strength this is eminently drinkable. No harshness or loss of control.

    • Nose
Undefined fruit in the nose, slight exoticism, delicate aftertaste of mangos, peaches and jam (without cinnamon)
The alcohol is well integrated in the nose.
    • Taste
The body is relatively closed, few wood notes, cereals with very delicate hints of exoticism (banana?)
    • Finish
The finish is grainy and delicately fruity, at the end of the tingle but again alcohol in the escalope.

With water a warm and pleasant drink. Taste is mostly chocolate and vanilla and small notes of salt.
    • Nose
Turpentine, blackberry and small nuances of wet wood.
    • Taste
First sweet with little notes of salt, but then pepper, pear and chocolate.
    • Finish
Pleasant and warm, but not very long and spectacular.

"A litre bottle of Glenmorangie bottled with the minimum amount of fuss -

unchillfiltered, undiluted and ready for drinking. A bit of water

really helps the flavours on this one, but the higher strength gives you

the choice as to how much."

There are two different boxes for this whisky. One is closed and with hessian inside to protect the bottle and the other one is smaller with a cut-out so that you can see the bottle inside.
