  1. Mannix65 scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

delicious Lutschwhisky from a better (whisky) time (grins). Lots of fruit and only subtle smoke, very subtle.
    • Nose
      92 92
Fully ripe peaches and mirabelles next to the open fire, grilled apricots, fully ripe plums, plums shortly before overripe,, discreet cold dry smoke, coal cellar
    • Taste
      93 93
very fruity, creamy, buttery, ripe stone fruit (mirabelle plum, apricot, peach), Campino orange candies, some oak, extremely salivary
    • Finish
      91 91
medium long, soft, fruity, slightly smoky and spicy - at the back a hint of wood

This is dull as dishwater, drinkable but not enjoyable and at first I was going to give this 75p my MOTR score but even that would flatter it 70p is about right, but the nose lifts the average score.
How the hell this has got such a high score is beyond me?
Oh and just to be sure I tried a 2nd sample from a different bottle, its still not very good.
The nose is by far the best part.
    • Nose
      88 88
The first thing I detect is barley sugar but its mixed with a bitter orange note.
Plenty of cake notes here, orange and lemon sponges and then some faint hints of wood smoke, this is all over the place.
    • Taste
      69 69
Oh dear this really lacks any sweetness and its really woody/oaky yet its only 21 years old, how come?
This is quite fizzy and some fruit does come through but its flat on the palate and can`t get going, hints of peat do not help and then the wood returns.
      Not good
    • Finish
      70 70
More bitterness but at least its fizzy so its the mid palate that is flat but again it fades to obscurity like the palate.

    • Finish

I have a very mixed impression of this Bowmore - really good on the nose and then this bad surprise of the flowery and soapy notes - it's in particular bad because it reminds me on the really bad series of Bowmores from the 80s that had those awful flowery and soapy notes (yes, the glass print series)
    • Nose
      92 92
Honey, peaches, apricots, whiffs of smoke and cold ashes, hints of old books, spices, touch of ginger - very good!
    • Taste
      80 80
Very oily, creamy, little fruity, subtle sweetness, and then the slightly flowery and soapy notes kick-in, hints of cardboard
    • Finish
      81 81
Medium long, warm, sweet and fruity again, the soapy notes don't last but the cardboardy notes do

  7. St. Pauli scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Very sooty and oily, with lubricants and linseed oil, tar, licorice root, fennel, honey, dried fruits and dusty barley.
    • Taste
Again very oily, menthol, licorice root, fruit and honeyed barley.
    • Finish
Somewhat cooling on menthol, but further still oily (linseed oil), fennel, licorice assortment and pepper.

  8. Dede scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Sherry nose then nicely fruity, light peat, subtle. Exoticism and candied citrus. Tertiary notes. Explosive mouth for the degree, delicate sherry, sweet spices, exotic fruits, candied citrus and light peat. Final a little brief.
