The Pikesville already has beautiful rye notes. The wood influence is relatively strong. In the nose, the whiskey is still relatively gentle. He then gets stronger in the mouth.
The Pikesville already has some rye but also a lot of bourbon. Reminds me of Noah's Mill. However, I found Noah's Mill even better.

One of the really good Ryes. For some, too much wood and too little rye, but it is noticeably no bourbon. Intense but still tasty.
    • Nose
Very sweet, light fruit, vanilla, wood, spices. Looks more like a mature bourbon than a rye. As probably 51% rather than 95% rye will be included. But that's ok. In the background flashes also the bready Rye seasoning. Far from mild and soft Bourbon.
    • Taste
Nice start, pepper, rye, spices, wood. Significantly less sweet, the wood and the rye wort has say that. And very intense aromatic.
    • Finish
Here is the rye most clearly. A touch of mint, a lot of oak, which ironed the more delicate Rye notes a bit. But the Rye is overall so delicious, spicy and compact that it all goes okay.

I think this is a tasteful rye whiskey that finds a proper balance between the rye spices and the bourbon sweetness. Moreover, it adds some surprising notes, which makes it fun to drink.
    • Nose
The first thing that I notice is that it is not that spicy, for a rye, more towards some spicy honey. Furthermore, I get peppered caramel and really nice curry spices, the latter reminds me of some bottlings of Indian whiskey like from Amrut. There is also a hint of mint, which I adore in a rye whiskey, and dragon. Strangely I get a sense of babi pangang, a well-known Chinese/Indonesian take-off meal in the Netherlands. The freshness is highlighted in the development with some grapefruit, lemon, and a (very) faint hint of smoke.
    • Taste
On the palate I tastes very earthy, again not that common among rye whiskies, and more spices compared to the nose, still not overly spiced though. A hint of a slightly spicy tea and pine apples (agains surprising). It become slightly tannic and peppery (hot red peppers). Also slightly dry, but there is a lovely hint of strawberry ice cream.
    • Finish
      More of the above.

    Aroma / Nose feeling:
A benevolent scent slowly creeps into the nose. Hefezopf, vanilla and Tonka bean. Cocoa, shortcrust pastry with icing sugar and oak. The minty, somewhat cool and minimal alcoholic impression is present, but very pleasant to perceive. Of course, together with the dark chocolate the Rye reminds of the smell of "After Eight".
Even some fruit in the form of pear and raspberry is noticeable. The Rye but you have to look for it to find something. Blind, I would probably even tap on a bourbon.
    89/100

    Taste / mouthfeel:
The whiskey is so cute! Unbelievable, this sweet impression ... Supple, the Rye can be in the mouth back and forth. A wonderful digestif. The 55% Vol. Are present, so it also tingles something in the mouth, but no reason to add water. Also purely for the tasting and notes, I had no need to dilute the Rye. I feel it the way it is perfect.
More small sips reveal juicy orange, vanilla and some clove. Also in the taste of the Rye is almost too little available. For me it might be a tick more, but there are other good bottles.
    88/100

    Finish / aftertaste / Length:
The taste is flowing into the medium-long finish. The Rye gets a bit bitter and the notes of the oak become stronger. It also joins freshly beaten wood and a little walnut. The Nachschmecken becomes clearly herbaceous and resinous.
Always accompanied by the clear sweetness.

    Overall impression / comment:
An insanely tasty bourbon ääääh Rye. Very, very pleasant to drink with excellent, albeit simple, taste, which certainly does not overwhelm anyone. This Rye you drink in a social gathering without having to concentrate on it, while playing poker, cheering on your favorite football team or in a classic way - on the wooden terrace at sunset in cowboy boots, and watching the mustangs out in the paddock. ????

    • Nose
What a big surprise! Very expressive nose: black tea, cherries, cinnamon, cocoa, earth, cloves and menthol.
    • Taste
Close to the nose: menthol, cherries, suggared black tea and cloves.
    • Finish
Long to very long. No bitter and off-notes at all. Creamy fruity and spicy at the same time.

N- Well armed with utterly oak-y and spicy notes, whiff of menthol derived from the strength with crushed dried leaf earthy aroma, well balance with cherry liquorice candy, toffee and butterscotch. Masculine puffy spices.

P- All wood initially, bites of frizzy tonic water with coats of bitter-sweet herbs. Spicy strength to balanced the oak/sweet elements for a decent powerful mouthfeel. Get more brown caramel and liquorice overtimes.

F- Medium, chili spicy, pungent and dry, returns of puffy wood phenol for a lightly smoky and peppery finish.

Not as fruity charms and width-y comparing to Whistlepig that we tried last year, louder on the charred wood smokes with spices and spicy strength.

Very much worth your while. A bottle will cost between 80 and 100 EUR, depending on where you look. In the States, it is just below 60 bucks, but hey, I do not come there very often. Pity, for this is really good. Thanks for the sample, Peter.
    • Nose
Hello?! What a beautiful nose on freshly ground coffee beans, milk foam, charcoal, flambéed pancakes with banana and a hint of mint. Milk chocolate. Brown sugar. A cinnamon bun. A bit of caramelized orange peel in the background. This is very nice.
    • Taste
Oily, spice and sweet on the palate. After a few moments that spiciness becomes really big and leaves your mouth completely dry. The oak roars! Think cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper. The sweetness translates into caramel, vanilla, dried coconut and some honey. This is again very pleasant, although it does not quite fulfill the promise of the nose.
    • Finish
That spiciness continues on in the long finish.

initially very very soapy on the nose, but give it time and darker notes emerge, overall it’s like a spicy version of elijah craig 12
