  3. Othorion scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Solid material, but not the stuff of dreams
    • Nose
just like a decent load of vanilla, honey and caramel sweets, plus pepper, slightly pungent alcohol, menthol, compote of red apples, oranges, warm butter cake
    • Taste
      boah, it goes off, alcohol, ginger and black pepper attack my taste buds, it gets warm in the mouth, then caramel but without water I do not taste much otherwise;
with water: better now the alcohol is tamed; still warming in the mouth, again ginger, creamy caramels (Werther's real), honey, only slightly fruity towards red apples, to a tender herbal note, which I can not describe
    • Finish
warming, caramel again, some oak, ginger, but relatively quickly gone

hmm ... solid malt. The 58% you only notice in the nose, otherwise they are wonderfully involved. Pretty straightforward the whole thing without much fancy
    • Nose
Lemon and apples; sweet honey and cereals; a little glue; Hazelnuts and caramel; over time, orange, mandarin, sugar and cinnamon are added; the alcohol is clear
    • Taste
very warming; Straw and honey; a slightly peppery undertone is there; Toffee and butterscotch; Now the alcohol is really well integrated and there is only a slight tingle on the tongue
    • Finish
rather short; sweet Honey; nice spicy with a good portion of pepper and oak; At the end, the oak once more subtly represses; Again, the alcohol is barely noticeable

My first Fettercairn and surely not my last. My expectations were quite low but I did not expect to get such a good Bourbon Roller Coaster. After the nose you expect a classic Bourbon matured whisky but you will get more, try your own! And for 80€ there are options which are worse :-) Very well done!
    • Nose
Quite classic bourbon nose with a lot of honey. The alcohol is well implemented and some herbs are also coming through. Nice but nothin special!
    • Taste
Wow what a taste it is quite spicy but not the alcohol like real pepper. And there is a lot of it! I also have some barbecue notes, herbs more dominant now, bacon. An up and down which I really like!
    • Finish
Nice finish but not too long!
