Whisky Reviews for Prometheus 27-year-old TGDC

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.75 points

  1. detachedblue scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Not very impressed with this one, especially considering the price.
    • Nose
Oaky sherry influences, old leather, shy and damp, maybe some sulphur, dates and creams, vanilla, modern style sherry casks.
    • Taste
Leathery and honey dates, quite bitter, all you can get from seasoned sherry casks, raisins and berries.
    • Finish
Short-medium, sherry, still a lot of leather, very smooth, not as bitter as the palate.

The 26-year-old and 27-year-old in direct comparison: https://fosm.de/tasting-prometheus-26yo-vs-27yo/
    • Nose
Smoke and sherry enter a beautiful harmony. Spicy notes with pepper. Vanilla and smoke. Fruit. Pickled cherries. I can not find charred peach. A little marzipan and orange.
    • Taste
Very soft and round. Smoke. Sherry. First sweet notes and then a little grapes. Zwendendrinn a light pepper note. Here I discover a bit of the charred notes paired with something sweet.
    • Finish
Short sweet start goes over in a long dry slightly nutty touch. Harmonious wood note with spices.

C: This came served in the smallest plastic cup, those they give you at a duty free. The pour barely coated the bottom of Glencairn glass for me to glean much. Nice and neat but i learned nothing about the Glasgow Distillery Company despite my keenness. I’ll try again another time.

  4. Allandale scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

One hell of a whisky. Fabulous.
    • Nose
Rich, round and soft with the spicy aroma of winter fruits and mulled wine.A complex synthesis  of vanilla pods, liquorice and preserved Maraschino cherries, against backdrop of lightly charred oak, whiff of oily peat.
    • Taste
Silky smooth up front. Powerful, rich, and even more savoury than the nose suggested with the excitement zesty orange peel adding to the spice. Added water: more will come. Complex.
    • Finish
Exceptionally long and rich. Spicy orange with a hint of sherry in charred oak.

After 27 years in (European oak) casks, this dram still packs a punch! Loads of spices involved here, the fruity (sweet) and dark, chocolate and leather notes are there to balance everything out but they clearly play second fiddle. I did not expect that intensity from a 27-year-old whisky.Score: 86/100
