    N-
Old leather couch and rattan, oriental herbs with hints of rubber
waving along. Young mango and salt with intriguing marine shellfish
notes. Puff of flaw new wood underlay a slight fall back.

    P-
Spicy coating, layer of dried fruit sweetness floating with burnt toast
bitterness. Pungent and raw wood rushing in at the back. Lack potential
    despite a good nosing.

F- Medium, dry and prickly. Peppery. Missing the roundness and surprisingly subdue.

    • Nose
Oakiness comes straight through, plenty of wood spices with cinnamon and cloves. Some notes of green apples and with time the addition of dark chocolate flakes.
    • Taste
Lots of spice, big on the attack with hot cinnamon and plenty of new oak. Still some notes of apples and a little bitter orange coming through.
    • Finish
Oak and bitter orange. Medium drying finish

The Macallan Edition No. 1 marks the beginning of a new annual limited-edition release. The concept with Edition No. 1 is co-creation, with both American and European oak casks being incorporated, showcasing the brand's mastery of wood. To accomplish the feat, Macallan's master whisky-maker, Bob Dalgarno, hand-selected and proportioned a total of eight different cask types, including different cask styles, sizes and origins. The release is NAS and bottled at 48% ABV.

THE EDITION 1/2/3 ARE A VERY GOOD SERIES FROM MACALLAN. AT LEAST SOMETHING VERY DRINKABLE FROM THEM.
THE FIRST ONE IS THE BEST BUT WHILE LIMITED TO 1500 IT IS OVERPRICED AND DIFFICULT TO FIND.

Macallan Edition No 1 Tasting Notes

Color: Amber at its best. Looks sexy in the bottle…

Nose: As you would expect, Oak is the dominant aroma here accompanied by sweet and tangy fruitiness. Vanilla and chocolaty aromas also linger around…

Palate: Similar fashion to the nose, very oaky. Lots of woody flavors such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg among the powerful oakyness. Little bit of bitter sweetness…

Finish: Fantastic finish in my opinion. Long and satisfying. Long lasting spice from oaky notes with a bit of burn in the month creating a pleasant effect.

Macallan Edition No 1 is a great expression if you are a fan of oaky whisky. The price point when compared to some of the other bottlings marketed in a similar fashion is more reachable. It is relatively hard to find in most markets but if you ever get the chance, don’t hesitate a grab a bottle. You will enjoy it…

  9. Xaver did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
The colleague starts with a clear, slightly salty leather note. Wet cigar tobacco. In the background is a subtly sour, corky citrus note, which pushes forward and forward. Spicy, slightly dirty sherry flavors come up. Has something of cooked apricots with some Maggi. With 15 minutes in the glass, garden herbs, toasted cereals and something like shoe polish come after. No trace of alcohol.
    • Taste
Mild, sweet start. The then turns into a slightly nutty bitterness. Some pepper, woody. Acidic citrus notes are there and give off immediately to the cooked, jelly-like fruits. The roasted cereal with garden herbs, logs also. A leather note occupies the mouth. As if you had licked briefly on a wet leather pants. The alcohol is very back.
    • Finish
Medium long, creamy, slightly bitter with some citrus. Leather.

Nose is lovely. Little leathery, hints of dried spice and a touch of rubber (adds to the nose not detracts).

Initially, the rubber comes through too much. Hits of cinnamon and leather.  Dried oranges.

Nice heavy legs. Juicy on the palate.

Finish, is very Macallan.  Strong sherry spice mix with length.

    Nice color.
